Where is the "National Day of Prayer" or the "Cathedral Service" ?
Edited on Sat Sep-03-05 06:00 AM by KyndCulture
The Friday after Sept. 11th was a National Day of prayer... and a huge interfaith service at our National Cathedral to pray for the rescuers and the victims.

Not that I believe in such things, but I find it glaring that in our nation of "faith based" crap, there have been no moments of silence, no vigils, no national day of prayer, no prayer services in the national cathedral to acknowledge the victims and the vast human suffering in our Gulf Coast.

I just wanna say what a bunch of fucking hypocrites. Christian right - more like Christian, right?

3. Well I knew someone would say that... of course.
But what I am saying is they are disgustingly quiet on the subject of prayer in this case.

And I would go to a candle light vigil and observe a moment of silence even though I don't pray as I'm sure a lot of people here would.

AND it's a damn good place to collect donations.

4. I was wondering about the same thing
they can't even be bothered to cancel the football games this weekend out of respect for all of the displaced people and the dead. I guess death doesn't matter to most people if you're poor and black.

9. I'm disgusted.
I love football but I can't even stomach the thought of watching it right now.

It just seems like many just don't fucking care.

6. A related question:
Where are the flag wavers?

I do think the governor of Louisiana had something about a day of prayer on the state website, but I'm not sure it got further than Louisiana.

As far as national, * was praying Katrina didn't interfere with his vacation. Guess God doesn't have as close a relationship with him as he thinks.

8. the flag wavers and prayer mongers sure hovered around Terri..
now with 10,000 dead and dying they don't give a flying fuck obviously, they've got their heads shoved in their gas tanks and are worrying about their own navel lint as usual.

7. The response has been strange
I was wondering about this too. Where is that prayer service? Why aren't the flags all at half staff?

Or are too many people just so desensitized to horrific events in the past five years that it doesn't even matter?

Or was it because there were enemies to place blame on?

It's an empty gesture of course, but goddammit it's a sign of respect that is traditional in this country.

but don't have a drop for thousands of living who are dying of thirst.
remember the sorry fucks and their phony outrage over "starving her to death"? where is their outrage now? has it entered the sponges that are supposed to be their brains that THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE DYING? HEY LURKING ASSHOLE FREEPER FUNDIES! WHY DON'T YOU BRING YOUR TRAVELING NUTCASE CIRCUS TO NEW ORLEANS TO PROTEST THE DELIBERATE STARVATION AND DEHYDRATION OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS?????

Saddam "gassed his own people" but your Lord and Savior Jesus W. Bush left tens of thousands of HIS own people to die of hunger, thirst, exposure, shock, disease, and heartbreak.

fucking hypocrites, I spit on all of you.

13. excellent question
More racism, more proof the Bush administration is falling apart, more evidence of their contemptuous, class-based cynicism. Don't ask what your country can do for you, ask what's in it for me and my cronies.

15. Blanco told everyone to do that Wednesday.......
I guess that's more a regional day of prayer than national. But don't worry, if you donate to Pat Robertson's "faith based" charity he'll send someone in New Orleans a bible. That's just what people need right now in New Orleans, a freaking bible. I've heard Leviticus is pretty tasty with a few fava beans and cilantro. :eyes: Tastes just like chicken!

17. They probably still beleive that dark skinned people have no souls
This is an old racist saw I have heard in history classes over the years. And it is sick, and I cannot beleive that people would still think something like that. But after this week, I think this delusion is still alive.
