I'm bawling -- NBC Telethon
Edited on Fri Sep-02-05 07:30 PM by Sgent
Arron Neville is bringing back an old, old song -- "The River is Trying to Wash us Away"

At first I thought it was a new song, but then he mentioned President Coolridge.

5. I don't know
John Goodman was on earlier too. He's a great one, loved Mardi Gras, walked with Pete Fountain, had a house in the area.

7. Neville is absolutely the best. It also gives new
meaning to "Cry Me a River." Sometimes I just have to turn off the TV because I get too emotional watching all those distraught people waiting and waiting for rescue. It is inhumane.

8. Lyrics here...
AARON NEVILLE

Louisiana 1927
(Randy Newman)

What has happened down here, is the winds have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
It rained real hard, and it rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

The river rose all day, the river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood, some people got away alright
The river had busted through clear down to Placker Mine
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us away
Oh Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us away

President Coolidge come down, in a railroad train
With his little fat man with a note pad in his hand
President say "little fat man, oh isn't it a shame,
What the river has done to this poor farmer's land"

Oh Louisiana, Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, you're trying to wash us away
Oh Louisiana, oh Louisiana
They're trying to wash us away, oh Lord, they're trying to wash us away
They're trying to wash us away, they're trying to wash us away

9. "Louisiana, 1927" by Randy Newman
can't remember the year, maybe 1969.

Good God that was one of the most powerful, emotional moments I have ever witnessed on TV.

We were crying.

12. I've never been so depressed in my life
My heart is breaking for all those people. I never thought I would see so much suffering from so many people in America. I knew it would be a nightmare for our country when bu$h and his thugs stole the election....twice.But my God.....I never dreamed it would be anything of this magnitude. I feel so helpless.I haven't even been able to contribute to DU but somehow some way I want to help those people. I put $2.00 down today and played our state's lottery. I hope I win, because the FIRST thing I would do is send money and supplies to all the hurricane survivers.Words can't express how low I feel. I want to wrap my arms around every single one of those people and tell them it will be alright...they will have everything they need. What upsets me so much too,is why did this have to happen to mostly black people? Haven't they suffered enough going through slavery and then being treated so horribly and not being able to use the same rest rooms or eat in the same restaurants as us? God,I am so ashamed and distraught over all this. Even my damn Zoloft isn't helping. I feel like this is another country, another dimension. I feel like I am in the twilight zone. I'm getting off here. I am crying too hard to type. :grouphug:
