2. Earlier this evening...
my spouse caught a glimpse of the inner Astrodome, and saw there were about 10,000 cots set up. Spouse said "looks crowded already, how they gonna get 25,000 in there?" Guess we know. They aren't.

4. Where will they go?
Things just get worse and worse, and conditions intensify in horridness.

How can they have planned the exodus to Houston so poorly? The mind reels.

I never watch Mr Brown until this story was underway, and I have been impressed with him. Heck, even Cafferty is rising to the occasion with appropriate outrage.

19. I agree but while we all are praising them, let's do remember
that they, even the best of them, with very few exceptions, were the enablers who allowed the Bush administration not to answer for their stupidity, evil ways, and incompetence -- and, boy, there have been so many occasions prior to this one. Once it's all done they should be held responsible and accountable big time as well. If they had started challenging this administration early enough we all would have been spared much pain, like Iraq and his second term. Now that his poll numbers are falling like a rock it's much easier to be brave.

5. Chimperor Nero really couldn't be doing a worse job
He is simply beyond belief. We all knew he was a idiotic, heartless, gutless, little turd, but he's really going beyond even what I thought he was capable of.

Chimperor Nero - you're toast.

6. where are the red c ross workers,
Where is the food and water? why aren't the feds setting up tent cities? Surely there are pieces of land somewhere in LA that can accomadate groups of 1000 campers. have all the camp grounds been suddenly filled up? are relief efforts being hampered deliberately? Cause it pretty apparant to me.

20. Closed bases ...

Closed military bases would be an ideal place to move people.

Though with Bush, I wouldn't be surprised if he freed up some space at Gitmo.

Edited on Thu Sep-01-05 11:26 PM by Bouncy Ball
We KNEW about this. I knew about it this morning. Dallas, Austin and San Antonio have been preparing since early yesterday to take what Houston couldn't hold.

There are also homes and shelters waiting to take them in other meduim-sized cities in Texas.

THOSE people will be ok. Save your upsetedness for the poor souls still trapped in NO.

15. Ok please calm down.
Buses are now being diverted to Austin, San Antonio and Dallas. We knew this was happening. Texas is taking in 75,000 evacuees instead of 25,000.

WE HAVE THE ROOM, IT'S A BIG FUCKING STATE, OK?

Read this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uslatest/story/0,1282,-5250022,00.html

Facilities are already set up, ready to go and receiving evacuees already. People are volunteering their homes, as well. Food, water, cots, and blankets await them.

Calm.

21. So why bus them to Houston if there isn't room?
If it's full, can't they radio to the buses and send them where there is room?

If you knew it was happing, why don't the bus drivers.

17. probably Rick Perry grandstanding ...
... Rick Perry was out grandstanding yesterday making promises that he obviously didn't coordinate with the city of Houston.

The feds need to quickly organize a "foster city" program for the refugees of New Orleans. Every city in the nation needs to pitch in what they can handle.

It was ludicrous for Rick Perry to suggest that an already over-burdened and underfunded school system (Houston) take tens of thousands of additional students.

Distribute the load and there is no problem. Small towns may only be able to take one family where a large city (New York, Los Angelas, Chicago) could take hundreds.

I'm shocked that the administration hasn't quickly put together this program. I'm also shocked that congress hasn't been recalled to pass emergency legislation to deal with the crisis.

I guess no braindead women are threatend by feeding tube removal in the New Orleans disaster so no special urgency is required!!!!
