In the days before Katrina hit, wasn't DU one of the few sites on Net warning of the possibility of the Soup Bowl Effect?

1. Nope--this potential problem has been known for decades.
And anybody who's ever spent much time in NO is familiar with it.

I know that the Soup Bowl problem was known, but what I'm asking is... In the days before Katrina hit NO, were sites other than DU warning of the Soup Bowl problem?

I'd never heard of the New Orlean's Soup Bowl problem until I read about it here.

3. Well, we were definitely talking about it on Sunday!
But DU wasn't one of the 'few' - this is something that scientists have been worried about for YEARS! That they would say it was 'unexpected' is such bullshit...

11. I was lecturing people that I don't even know on Saturday night
Ordering people to leave and generally sounding hysterical.

At the time I felt sort of foolish, hysterical acting and
over-reactionary.

Believe me, now I take no joy in my hunch being right :(

6. There are articles on this every year
There were tons of pieces just last year before Hurricane Ivan. They apparently were extremely worried about this when Hurricane Camille struck in the '60s. They were terrified that Hurricane Andrew was going to strike New Orleans after devastating Florida.

When I was in 6th grade (8 years ago now) we watched a discovery channel documentary on hurricanes that spent a great deal of time talking about the effects of a Hurricane on New Orleans and even included computer-generated images of New Orleans under water.

This isn't something unexpected. It is something that we have always known about and have anticipated.

10. Yes, it was talked about, here and elsewhere.
For Bush to say "nobody could have predicted the breach" shows him to be a liar and a laughable leader for this country.

Read this:

They were already funding it.
