Fats Domino -- Unable to evacuate, whereabouts unknown.
Heard on WXPN 88.5 in Philadelphia. (Internet feeds at 24-96 kb are available.)

Morning DJ Michaela Majoun heard from a friend of hers in New Orleans who is a neighbor and friend of Fats Domino (Antoine Dominique). Majoun's friend is okay, but she reported that Fats was unable to evacuate and simply moved up to the second floor of his home. She hasn't been able to track him down since she evacuated.

He lives a block or so from one of the breeched levees.

There are a number of other beloved musicians who make/made New Orleans their home, from these old Blues guys to pop stars like (two of the) Bangles. Perhaps those who are too jaded to pay attention any way else will take notice if they realize their favorite musicians are missing.

WXPN has a website at XPN.org which also has streaming audio. If you are a Fats Domino fan, you may want to listen in for more information. You can also send e-mail, but you should probably ask around to see if other fans of Fats (or other musicians) are doing the same, so that XPN doesn't get its mail servers clogged.

It's time I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm going to need two pair of shoes
When I get through walkin' to you
When I get back to New Orleans

I've got my suitcase in my hand
Now, ain't that a shame
I'm leavin' here today
Yes, I'm goin' back home to stay
Yes, I'm walkin' to New Orleans

You used to be my honey
Till you spent all my money
No use for you to cry
I'll see you bye and bye
Cause I'm walkin' to New Orleans

I've got no time for talkin'
I've got to keep on walkin'
New Orleans is my home
That's the reason why I'm goin'
Yes, I'm walkin' to New Orleans

I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm walkin' to New Orleans
I'm walkin' to New Orleans

5. He lives in Arabi
I lived about 2 blocks from him for a few years. His house has railing around it with his name spelled out in purple letters. Whenever a major tour would come through (Stones, Clapton) you would see limousines outside his house. And, yes, I would take walks by his house just to spend time with him on his porch.
Wonderful man, and family, and I have a feeling he's okay.
