UGH!!! Asa Hutchinson just said the Hurricane was down graded before
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 07:01 PM by BlueStateGirl
it hit land, so who could have predicted it???

I expected CHris Matthews to say "Sure from 5 to 4", but he said"Sure , from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1". AS to imply that is was a Cat 1 when it hit land.

And Tweety just said "No one could have predicted this"

Bullshit. This has been talked about as a possibility for years. It was ranked in the top 3 of FEMA's disaster scenarios.

11. Florida was hit with 4s that were downgraded, and they still
left their mark. Tornadoes and rain are unpredictable things.

3. I began watching the Weather Channel at 3 a.m. CDT: it was obvious NO
would be flooded big-time as any fool could see the strong hurricane-force winds driving Lake Bourne into Lake Ponchartrain for several hours. At least four houses we had lived in over a nine-year period in the 50s and 60s are now under several feet of water.

6. So it's a grotesque numbers game, is it?
They weren't prepared because they cut the budget. They gambled with people's lives and lost.

13. The hurricane scale doesn't include damage;
storms are categorized entirely by meteorological variables. The tornado scale, on the other hand, does include the amount of damage in determining which level applies...

It seems in a lot of cases that a bit too muchattention is paid the the storm category - as if a 4 is somehow so much better than a 5 and a 2 must be just trivial. I think a lot of people (not meaning you) just don't realize what these storms are - even a tropical storm or a simple tropical depression can do huge damage if it lingers in the wrong place...

than that...

Meteorologists have been complaining for years that pressure, not wind speed, should be used to rank hurricanes.

16. I was also up watching this until very late - Weather Channel...
COULD NOT HAVE BEEN CLEARER about what this was going to do. They kept repeating that the BEST case scenario was for it to drop slightly from a 5 to a 4, but it was still going to have the effect of an F2 or F3 TORNADO, only over a very wide area, and that it was going to be catastrophic.

But, if anything has been proven under this most embarrassing and regrettable misadministration, it is that truth no longer counts, and lies, when repeated, can become the new truth.

I am a peaceful person, but find myself wishing very bad things on many, many politicians these days. And, the Dem leaders are NOT STEPPING UP TO THE PLATE. I guess they are no less in the corporate pockets than the righties.

to 4. However, I was watching MSNBC, and the weather gail stated, wind measurment was done from back NE (which is much less intense). She was very clear that, wind from front NW was MUCH stronger!!! I wonder why, they did this and downgrated to CAT 4??? Far as I can see, someone wanted make sure this hurrican looked better on the paper. I tell you, FUCKING cover ups!!!

BTW; In the end, I can bet you, they'll have to bring this back up to CAT 5 hurricane! They did this with Andew! Andew was originally CAT 4... this was changed 2 years later to CAT 5!
