"Practically every leader of the United States"
I think it's Kiera Phillips(?), on CNN.
Following the Chertoff press conference.

"An UNPRECEDENTED press conference! Practically every leader of the country coming forward to explain how their departments would come forward to help in this largest natural disaster ever."

"Unprecedented"?
No, it's what I would expect.

"Practically every leader"?
Cabinet secretaries.
Practically every leader except...um...you-know-who.
The supreme leader.
The C. in C.

I love cheerleading "news" people.

1. And this press conference should have occurred yesterday....
if not Monday. I saw a bit of the conference, but not the cheerleading.

8. Or Sunday...
So the national response is to waive environmental rules regarding Gasoline, create emergency medical centers, waive truckers hours & declare the area a health hazard. I'm so furious I'm gonna be sick. When they talk about bands of armed looters, where is the national guard? The guy from the defense department talked more about medical aid than helping RIGHT NOW getting people out and protecting the people who can't get out.

5. Just heard Rachel Madow going
and the people at the Dome will be moved to the Superdome in Houston for an indefinite period.

Time for our so called "leaders" to ask the International Red Cross how you handle this... because they have no clue... oh and yes I used to work as an EMS worker, Enclosed Space Rescue, Mountain Rescue and yes Disaster Manager for another National Society... oh man I see them just compounding this... what part of tents, portable kitchens and cots are they missing? Damn hot damn there are days...

Oh and the ARC has no procedure in the books to ask for this help either... even if all it requires is the nod from state and a call to Geneva

7. Houston's emerg. mngmt. guy was on earlier disclaiming
Really backpedaling, like he was thinking "What idiot thought this up?"
Said the Astrodome was not set up to house a crowd for long periods of time. At best it will be a way station until something else can be worked out.

You see what they need to do is set up long term refugee camps... when was the last time the American Red Cross (as much as they claim they know now to do this) well did this? the cheap answer is NEVER. The US Military could do it, but alas where are they? And I mean the active component, the guard has a clue but alas it is not part of their mission for their mission is relatively short term. They need to do this medium to long term... recovery for this short term is six months, long term is ten years.

What is more the ICRC has helped national societies do things like oh, get building programs to rebuild large swatches, (Central America, for example after the hurricanes down there) At this point this is a Cat 4 disaster (all national resources are stretched thin) and it is time to bow our heads and be humble and go, hey world we can use some help and expertise here... but bush is too proud for this...

Oh and don't worry this national pride is NOT unique to us... I had to get creative once... and go around a foreign office.

6. The only one of those "leaders" that I
recognized by sight was Chertoff. I had never even seen that goon Assistant Secretary of Defense before. Leaders, my ass. The reason they are all incompetent is that they are all politicians, not leaders.
