Really great news! IRS extends filing deadline for hurricane victims
The Internal Revenue Service has extended tax deadlines for individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The extension gives taxpayers until Oct. 31 to file tax returns and submit tax payments. The extension includes the Sept. 15 deadline for estimated taxes.

The Internal Revenue Service will not charge interest or late penalties that would otherwise apply. Taxpayers in affected areas should write "Hurricane Katrina" in red ink on forms filed with the IRS.

Individuals can deduct some hurricane losses not covered by insurance by filing amended 2004 tax returns or by claiming this year's losses when filing tax returns next spring.

See how quickl and effective the government was in its emergency response to this tragedy?

Like the people of Nola or Gulfport or Biloxi give a flying shit right now about income tax returns.

1. hey you, up on the roof
I got great news! No, no help is on the way yet, sorry. It'll still be 4-5 more days til the rescue ships come with your water and food, but I have great news! No late penalties on your taxes next year, isn't that great?

The last time I checked, the store was six feet underwater. I neglected to place my important documents in a location at a higher elevation. My total stock is somewhere between Biloxi and Vera Cruz. My primary concern is gathering what little records I can salvage to pay my income
taxes to support the dumb ass war of Bush. Money that should have been spent to fortify the levees.
