Mississippi's Casino Barges: An observation
Mississippi, like many states, used casino barges as a way to get around anti-gambling laws without having to cross the religious right. Mississippi will have to pay for their folly. Will they learn a lesson from this?

1. I think of it more as a quaint gimmick
They had the masts and the yardarms and little pirate guy painted on the stern. It harkened back to the day when a hick rube could lose all his money from the harvest in an evening of poker on a Mississippi River sidewheeler. Don't make too much of a fuss, there ain't no law out here!

2. The casinos will pay for their repairs in a week of business.
So...the answer is probably no.

3. I don't think the gambling industry is going to.......
bounce back soon down yonder there. So old Haley better come up with some better plan to take care of people now, that he has given away the store. Lots of people are going to need a hand up and a hand out to just stay alive, so perhaps these gambling moguels should think about that.

5. maybe raise TAXES????
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 10:36 AM by SoCalDem
Taxes are the best/fairest way to take care of the citizenry..Asking "one segment" to subsidize the rest is always dicey..

Haley rolled the dice and came up snake-eyes (just like his beady little peepers)...

Let's say the casinos re-open..Can their "employees" just cool their heels for months, sleeping in tents and eating weeds until they re-open?

and just who will have the "extra" money to gamble with?

Other nearby states have casinos, the "fly-drive ins" will just get used to going there..

haley better start calling in some favors.. He seems to have built the whole economy on gambling..

4. Not a problem for H.B.
As the people get desperate and turn to looting, he will have them shot on sight. No help needed.
