Trying to keep it all in perspective
I'm screwed. My Mac is fried.

It was a loyal old friend, running 24/7 for months on end, sleeping when I slept, entertaining me when I was bored, distracting me when I was supposed to be doing other things.

Earning me a living.

But alas, my old iMac DV G3 finally took the big nap today, after three days of trying to salvage her. I managed to make sure to get most important backed up the moment I sensed trouble, but still, I know there will be a ton of stuff that won't appear missing until I go looking for them. My hard drive is toast; it won't zero out; repairs won't take. Volume structure refuses to be repaired. Even complete erasure and clean re-install won't work. I'm writing this from my daughter-in-law's iBook, while I can.

I had just finished a new cartoon, too. One of my best, I think. I never got to post it. GoLive is lost completely, and will require a complete re-install. I think I can get Illustrator/Photoshop up and running off the back-up, but I'm not optimistic. Bottom line is, I need a new machine. My old iMac is no more. I am so bummed, and also "out of work" until I can get it all back up and running and checked out. No small task, as I don't have the cake for a new computer. Shit.

But then I realize, hey...I don't have ten feet of water in my living room. I have food, I know where my family is. So, sure, this is terrible. But it really isn't, in the grand scheme things.

Still, if anyone has ever thought of donating to my site to help out with the free 'toons, now is the time (at the NBY link below). I'd appreciate it, but sure as hell understand if you feel there are more appropriate things to donate to. Peace out all.

It could be a lot worse for most of us!
