Horrible thought...
Hurricane Katrina's landfall results in a high death toll and Little Junior bikey boy stands on the pile of rubble and declares "Disaster Area! Here's some money. Message: I care!"

I'm in the middle of the path cone....but inland.

Remember folks who live inland: most people die from flooding, not high winds or storm surge. This is a huge storm and it will affect many people in many states over the next few days. Of course Nawlins is of the utmost concern at this point, due to it's geological situation and I see there is a thread about helping house those who are leaving..great.

Another horrible thought. What if a ...aw crap, I can't even type it. I'm afraid if I type it, and it comes true I would be held responsible.

Never mind.

1. Hurricane deaths
seem to come in alot of ways.

During the storm is one thing: drowning, tornadoes, etc.

After the storm is when we had some too: accidental deaths from carbon dioxide poisoning (generators), injuries, fires, sickness

sometimes the aftermath is worse than the storm itself

2. Bush is on vacation until September 3
He has to live his life.

Remember, he didn't bother to interrupt his Christmas holiday after the tsunami, when first estimates were that 100,000 had been killed. It hit on Sunday and he didn't make a statement himself until Wednesday. And that statement was released pre-taped. He is not going to give up an afternoon of leisure activities to attend to the needs of thousands of storm victims.

4. They can still do a lot of damage inland. Have lots of batteries, candles,
water, and food that doesn't need cooking. Best of luck.

5. Good advice Pat.
I have leftovers from the previous hurricanes this year...they seem to like the Gulf this year.
