Hastert’s Turkish Allies Tied to Bin Laden

“If they were to allow the whole picture to emerge… certain elected officials will stand trial and go to prison.” – Sibel Edmonds

CHICAGO, Illinois, Aug 15 (IP) – During the current flurry of September 11th related news, one item has gone largely unnoticed.

Bin Laden? It appears its time for the Speaker of the House to start speaking. I find especially disturbing the following statement from Denny Boy during the 2004 campaign: "When a reporter asked Hastert if he thought al Qaeda would operate with more comfort if Kerry were elected, the speaker said, "That's my opinion, yes." from CNN

1. Repukes try to use the "Six degrees of Kevin Bacon" method to
tie any Dem with Al-Qaeda.

Here's evidence, it sounds like, of "Denny Boy" being caught with his fingers in the terrorists' pies . . .

12. Ed Schultz pointed this out, erroneously, to a caller who said
that, if we regained the House (under the guise of "Elect us, we'll impeach"), we'd get rid of Bush.

Schultz reminded her that, if we got rid of Bush, then we'd have to deal with Cheney, then Speaker of the House "Denny Boy" Hastert.

I couldn't call in to correct Big Eddie. He had forgotten one detail.

If we regained the House, then got rid of Bush, then, yes, Cheney would be the successor. If we then successfully got rid of Cheney, Big Eddie was right about the fact that the Speaker of the House would be the next in line via succession. But it would not be Hastert - since we regained the House, the ranking Dem would probably be elected Speaker - since we would own the House.

14. You are correct.
That's why it's so damn important that we take the house back. It's the only way an impeachment is possible.

Hopefully, Fitz will indict soon. That will change the whole dynamic.

from the linked page:

In an August 10, 2005 interview about her reported allegations, Edmonds was asked, “What are you alleging about the Speaker of the House?” Though under a strict gag order, she replied:

“I have been giving all the details to the appropriate channels. And they have been confirmed. And what I have said all along is the fact that as far as the 9/11 is concerned, September 11 is concerned, these departments -- and when I say “these departments,” the Department of Justice, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense -- have intentionally blocked the investigations of real -- the real criminals in this country. …

Most of al Qaeda’s funding is… through narcotics. And have you heard anything to this date, anything about these issues which we have had information since 1997? And as I would again emphasize, we are talking about countries. And they are blocking this information, and also the fact that certain officials in this country are engaged in treason against the United States and its interests and its national security, be it the Department of State or certain elected officials.

Oh how I love the Google cache...

New York (IP)- Emad Salem, working on behalf of the FBI as an informant, conspired with other terrorists to blow up the World Trade Center using a well-placed truck bomb. Mr. Salem attempted to execute the FBI plan to substitute fake explosives and arrest the other terrorists. Unfortunately, a senior FBI official prevented the substitution, and the terrorists used live explosives, killing 6 civilians.

Edit: Broken link. Will fix later.

8. So, the FBI and the DoJ going back to 1996/7 have been squashing intel?
Doesn't surprise me at all.

Our government is 99.9% corrupt and even our law enforcement/intelligence agencies have been involved in smuggling cocaine and other drugs into this country and, it now appears, in letting bin Laden's money man, Kadi (a Saudi), go untouched.

Anyone else surprised Sibel is still able to draw a single breath?

34. As much as I'm glad that Cindy is getting some attention...
we do need hers too to get people to "start" becoming activists, we need for them to move to the "meat" from the potatoes and look at the hardcore issues that I think are lingering crisises that will mean far more damage if they aren't addressed now (like Sibel's quest to be heard by the Supreme Court).

Then again Cindy's still not popular enough to the point that searches with keywords of "Cindy" and "Crawford" don't return mostly images of the following:

15. Should this really be in LBN?
That site doesn't look like a valid LBN source. This is the only page of the entire website. Seems kind of sketchy for something billing itself as the "International Post" to have... one post. Or article.

I also can't find any information about the author, "Lynn Grant" but the domain is registered to someone calling himself "Grand Grant" I also can't find this supposed AP piece on google news

Very sketchy.

Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 10:56 AM by Minstrel Boy
There is nothing to that story which is false. The New York Times published the same information. Nothing "crackpot" about it.

Emad Salem was an FBI informant who belonged to the cell which conducted the 1993 bombing. He testified, and tapes were played in court confirming his allegation, that he had warned agents about the bombing, had wanted to substitute inert powder for the explosives, but was told not to.

A compilation of mainstream stories from Cooperative Research:

An attempt to topple the WTC fails, but six people are killed and over 1000 are injured in the misfired blast. An FBI explosives expert later states that, “If they had found the exact architectural Achilles' heel or if the bomb had been a little bit bigger, not much more, 500 pounds more, I think it would have brought her down.” Ramzi Yousef, who has close ties to bin Laden, organizes the attempt. (Congressional Hearings, 2/24/98; Village Voice, 3/30/93) The New York Times later reports on Emad Salem, an undercover agent who will be the key government witness in the trial against Yousef. Salem testifies that the FBI knew about the attack beforehand and told him they would thwart it by substituting a harmless powder for the explosives. However, an FBI supervisor called off this plan, and the bombing was not stopped. (New York Times, 10/28/93) Other suspects were ineptly investigated before the bombing as early as 1990. Several of the bombers were trained by the CIA to fight in the Afghan war, and the CIA later concludes, in internal documents, that it was “partly culpable” for this bombing. (Independent, 11/1/98) US officials later state that the overall mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, is a close relative, probably an uncle, of Yousef. (Independent, 6/6/02; Los Angeles Times, 9/1/02) One of the attackers even leaves a message which will later be found by investigators, stating, “Next time, it will be very precise.” (Associated Press, 9/30/01)

Maybe you should ask yourself, how much else do you call "crackpot" without having done your homework?

21. It isn't news, that's what is wrong with it.
The fundamental difference between the legitimate NYT piece and the bullshit internationalpost piece is that the NYT piece makes clear that it is quoting someone as having said something, whereas the internationalpost piece states his quote as fact, then goes on to editorialize on it, which is fine, but it's not a site that should be used as an LBN source.

"The account, which is given in the transcript of hundreds of hours of tape recordings that Mr. Salem secretly made of his talks with law-enforcement agents, portrays the authorities as being in a far better position than previously known to foil the February 26th bombing of New York City's tallest towers."

You know, it stinks when people talk out of their ass.

22. A copy of The New York Times story
Tapes Depict Proposal to Thwart Bomb Used in Trade Center Blast

by Ralph Blumenthal
The New York Times
October 28, 1993

Law-enforcement officials were told that terrorists were building a bomb that was eventually used to blow up the World Trade Center, and they planned to thwart the plotters by secretly substituting harmless powder for the explosives, an informer said after the blast.

The informer was to have helped the plotters build the bomb and supply the fake powder, but the plan was called off by an F.B.I. supervisor who had other ideas about how the informer, Emad Salem, should be used, the informer said.

The account, which is given in the transcript of hundreds of hours of tape recordings that Mr. Salem secretly made of his talks with law-enforcement agents, portrays the authorities as being in a far better position than previously known to foil the February 26th bombing of New York City's tallest towers.

...

The transcript quotes Mr. Salem as saying that he wanted to complain to F.B.I. Headquarters in Washington about the Bureau's failure to stop the bombing, but was dissuaded by an agent identified as John Anticev.
