new PNAC statement on Iran.... here we go again!
With Bush's renewed beating of the war drums with regard to Iran, I thought I'd wander over to the PNAC website to see what the warmongers who hold the strings in this administration have to say on the subject... here is a part of it...

*********************************************************************

Third, lest we forget, one reason the Bush administration promulgated the possibility of military preemption in its strategic doctrine was the fact that, in this day and age, one could not count on timely warning of when states or terrorist groups might be on the verge of obtaining a devastating capability that puts America and its allies in serious danger. With denial and deception capabilities in our adversaries growing, and the seeming holes in U.S. intelligence’s collection capabilities, senior policymakers will rarely, if ever, be able to count on getting “date certains” to guide key decisions. All of which returns us to the fact that we have to keep an eye on the bigger picture: What kind of regime is Iran? What is the history we do know of its clandestine nuclear program? What are its avowed aims toward the U.S. and our allies? Why is it developing a ballistic missile warhead capable of delivering a nuclear weapon? And, last, what remains of its ties to and support for terrorists?

None of this means that the U.S. should be planning an attack tomorrow. There are numerous practical problems we would confront in carrying out that decision, even if that were in theory the right one to make. But it does mean that we have no reason to relax, nor can we postpone difficult decisions indefinitely.

2. He doesn't have any war drums to beat. . .
and we don't have the military manpower to invade Iran without a draft. If we have to send the National Guard to Iraq in such huge numbers, Bush isn't going to have anyone but the neocons to man the Iranian invasion, and we all know they only fight with keyboards and action movie video games.

4. on the other hand.. If there were some kind of horrible attack
on our shores.... We would have no choice but to conscript and crack down on all the terrorist sympathizers within our borders..... you know, those dirty democrats...

Then the Iranians would greet us with candy and flowers...

5. What clandestine nuclear program?
We (Halliburton) helped them build it. We encouraged it, I guess to get them to sell their oil and gas instead of using it.

6. While we are focused on extricating ourselves from the disaster in Iraq..
the grand design of the PNAC ideology is moving ahead briskly. Not to invade Iran would be a failure to their cause after all they invested in Phase I, Iraq. We have so many more clues this time than we did in 2003, but we don't seem to be heeding them. It is really naive to think that the disgust of the American people toward a war of lies and unnecessary bloodshed is going to deter them from the bigger prize, Iran.

17. In a brief conversation I had with a customer yesterday, who is
in the army, but in his 40's, said the big prize is not Iran, but Saudi Arabia.

I have nothing to back this up with, just his words. I did a little research last nite, and while there are some political probs there, I found nothing of immediate concern. Maybe I should nose around PNAC.

It scared the crap out of me.

8. THE PROJECT FOR THE OLD AMERICAN CENTURY

THE PROJECT FOR THE OLD AMERICAN CENTURY

The Project for the OLD American Century is a grass-roots organization that strives to protect and strengthen democracy primarily by disseminating unreported and underreported news stories from a perspective untainted by political or corporate sponsorship.

The Project was founded in 2002 in response to a rigged election, reduced civil liberties, a hijacking of our domestic and foreign policies by the energy/defense industries, and a compliant corporate media that refused to make these problems prominent in our national consciousness.  We felt it our duty as patriots to create a web-based independent media outlet where we can not only debunk the myth of the liberal media but expose the corruption and cronyism taking place at the highest levels of government and corporate power.

The Project for the Old American Century conducts its own research and compiles dossiers made available to the public both via the web or in print free of charge. Topics include conflicts of interest inside government agencies, specific profiles of top public officials, data acquired through the Freedom of Information Act, and much more.

9. it basically says nothing except
plenty of inuendos... and exagerations ("Why is it developing a ballistic missile warhead capable of delivering a nuclear weapon") but "we know nothing for sure"...

THEREFORE

we should strike because "in theory" it's right

that kind of "logic" can be applied to any country, even Monaco

and they call themselves a thinktank....

12. Iran & N Korea would NEVER use a nuke
Why would they do the thing that would cause the thing they seek to avoid? If they attacked ANYBODY with ANYTHING they'd be history in short order. Why would they do it? Of course they wouldn't. They want nukes for deterrence only. That is obvious. It's all about self-preservation.

But if we can make them seem like a threat, scare enough people, the neo-cons can get another war and further attempt to implement their foreign policy fantasies.

The WMD thing with Iraq neve made sense. If SH had em why would he use them, why would he write the ticket for his own destruction? He wouldn't. SH, if anything else, was a survivor. In the run up to the war, this, SH's motivation, was perhaps the most egregious under-covered element.

The Iranians and North Korean's are no different.

20. I recommend reading the opening post and other links in this thread:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4252778
Thread title: Three extremely important threads on Iran nukes & the Bush agenda

This will show you what is going on now and who is behind it. It's very, very scary. And, as the first link in that thread shows, the best available intelligence, the NIE on Iran (which was leaked to the Wash Post), shows that Iran is at least 10 years from being able to build a nuclear bomb.

Of course, people like neocon mouthpiece and SwiftBoat Liar book writer Jerome Corsi, are saying that Iran has nukes NOW and we have to invade them to prevent mushroom clouds. The hawk faction of the Israeli government wants has and does want "regime change" in Iran even more than they wanted it in Iraq. And they have huge pull in Washington. And this has been Cheney's agenda all along.

My great fear is that they will engineer an domestic attack like 9/11 and that this will be used as an excuse for invasion, possibly nuclear, of Iran. Indeed, according to an article in the American Conservative, Cheney has made it official policy that if there is a domestic terrorist attack, Iran will be invaded - this in spite of lack of evidence that Iran might be responsible:
