Truthout: Cindy meets Medea Benjamin at Camp Casey
t r u t h o u t | One Mother's Stand
By Scott Galindez

Friday 12 August 2005
9:45 PM

The last couple of hours were amazing. The soldier from Fort Hood who is being deployed to Iraq met with Cindy at the Peace House. Cindy told him that she was doing this for him and the other troops. He responded by telling that we need more people like her. The 35 year old soldier doesn't believe in this war and described Iraq as a 360 degree killing zone. This young man knows the history of the region, so he knows this an unnecessary, un-winnable war. The group talking to the soldier included Ray McGovern, and Medea Benjamin who offered to tie him to the chair so he wouldn't have to go to Iraq.

I have taped his 9/11 speech that CSPAN showed and it was amazing. Of course most of the stuff I already knew but it's nice to hear someone publically talking about it like him. It must be amazing to be down there now.

10. even if you can't be there in person, if you realize what's happening..
you are there... and part of it... they didn't have the internet when Rosa wouldn't give up her seat. I think we are in uncharted territory.

21. How about "You are Un-American" or some of the things they say
to us peace protesters.

"You don't support the troops"

"You don't care if they die"

11. That produced immediate tears!
I think you are so right! This is snowballing into something bigger than I thought possible in this zombie nation.

I actually feel optimism.

23. Reminds me of a Cheyenne Proverb
"A nation is not conquered until the hearts of it's women are on the ground. Then, it is done, no matter how brave it's warriors nor how strong their weapons."

9. Medea is an odd choice for a name nowadays.
Or, say for the last 2,000 years.

Does this mean that Oedipus and Clytemnestra are now proper names for kids again?

13. I love that woman!
Medea is actually one of the great examples of just how clueless the
powers that be really are.

Not only is Medea an unusual name..she has a very unique face. I don't mean to be unkind, but it is the kind of face you remember. Yet she manages to get into every venue no matter what the security is like. She was 20 ft. from Cheney at RNC last summer screaming "how much did you make on the war today?"

She got into a VIP area at the "inauguration". This is a very recognizable woman who is head of "Code Pink". And they can't even secure themselves from her. I love it.

20. No, I dont..but googling her just now
I was astonished at how much more she's been involved in.

It's weird you mention San Antonio though..I just got back from there and it was my first visit. Unfortunately, I happened to arrive doing the high school coaches convention and the concealed arms convention. No, not kidding. It was insane.

But, I managed to sweet talk my way into a beautiful room at Watermark and also La Mansion. After the convention jerks left, it was lovely and I need to go back and hit the art galleries. Great town.

18. Can’t be more vowels than syllables to a first name.
You could have a Todd Oedipus or Clytemnestra Cameron (assuming Y is sometimes I.)

27. If Cindy goes to Washington? I'll save the gas money for the trip
Cindy Sheehan, Bush won't talk to you because you weren't pre-screened and without a script or an ear-phone he would only make a bigger fool out of himself then he already is, Rove/Cheney know this!
