Re: Drudge report- why is Matlin's picture up?
Just went over to the Sludge Report to see if there was any new news about the WH/Rove/Wilson story, and there is a big headline that reads: Who Leaked blah, blah.....? and there is a picture of Mary Matalin up.
What up with that?
This is the first we're hearing her name, no?

1. hadn't she been long gone from the WH when the story
went down?

My guess - Drudge trying to distract attention by putting her up (because we KNOW that she is married to Carville - and must be a plant... so by innuendo it was Carville who outed Plame, not anyone in the WH).

2. She was Dick Cheney's advisor--I hope it WAS her.
Edited on Mon Sep-29-03 01:02 PM by tjdee
Because there is NO WAY Carville will let his wife go down because of Dick Cheney.

She did resign before this stuff, but AFAIK she is still an informal adviser.

If Matalin is at all implicated, it's going right to Bad Ticker Dick.

8. Mary Matlin? OMG! Remember Cheney's office sent Wilson
to Africa, though Cheney lied as usual as said he never saw the Wilson report. Yes, Mary worked for Cheney, then resigned.

At freeperville, they are even talking about the person being Ari Fleischer. They were going at it on the thread trying to get the timeline down as to when Ari left etc. Interesting.

This is going to get really messy and yes, I do get joy seeing the freepers going crazy!

19. At the request of the Vice pResident's office, right?
That's always been my understanding. Dick Cheney asked the CIA, who sent Wilson.

3. It would be just like the right wing
to try to pull a stunt like that - she hasn't been with the admin for some time now but boy wouldn't that get their juices going - just blame Carville - how cute!

5. If they do try and blame Matalin, I'm sure the Ragin Cajun will defend
her to the death, but she will most likely defend this WH and say that the liberals are trying to smear her. I do not like that woman and do not trust her. I love James, but how did those 2 ever come together????:wtf:

6. Didn't they write a book on that?
Watching K Street, it seems like all she does is put him down--but obviously they're in love and have been for many years. Eh, crazy thing, love.

I've been meaning to search that book out.

10. The book is "All's Fair". It's a good book. She does get
angry at him a lot but the thing is, he does want he wants to anyway. It seems to work for them.

7. Yesterday somewhere on DU I read that Matalin
still advises Cheney occasionally. I don't know if that is true or not.

According to the Post, a high administration official said that 2, not 1, people called the media.

9. Who called Drudge and told him to add Matalin?
This is truly suspicious. Card, Karl, Condi, Dickie are all obvious likely suspects. But Matalin? Somebody had to expressly tip Drudge off on this one. So now we have a new level of suspects: who leaked the name? who leaked that "top WH officials" leaked the name? who leaked the name that Mary Matalin leaked the name? This is what they used to call "court intrigue".

11. Why isn't Fleischer on the list?
His departure was suspicious then... especially so, now.

12. Other media were called also, true?
It could have been more than two doing the calling.

Why is this just now hitting the fan? This news has been out for months and there has been lots of time for the outers to cover their rears.

Anyone have any predictions on just how much punishment is going to be given to the guilty?

These guys don't get punished like any of the rest of us would. They're special and are treated special. I don't think any of them will be punished for it at all.

13. In a way I hope they accuse Matalin. She ain't no dummy.
I dislike her politics no end, but any Republican that chooses to marry a liberal and can maintain a marriage as disparate as that has my admiration (actually, I do not understand how Carville can make it work).
No pun intended, but if they accuse her she will not take this laying down...

14. Matlin has enough dirt on them to bury them all...
Start with Cheney's energy group meetings, right on through PNAC and Iraq, ...she knows it all. They better be careful messing with her. Actually, I hope they do, and she spills all!

16. Why isn't Clinton's picture up?
They've managed to blame him for everything smirky has gotten wrong up to now,but I don't even think Karl Rove can come up with a reason to blame Clinton for this fiasco.

Imagine! We're supposedly fighting a war against terrorism, and protecting our nation from further attacks, and some jackass outs a valuable agent who is investigating WMDs? To me, it's just more evidence that they do *everything* for a political reason - even betray their own nation and jeopardize its safety.

ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE IMPEACHMENT A CHANCE!

20. Yesterday, I speculated that she might have been set up by Rove.
I also am under the impression that you can't be convicted of conspiracy to commit this crime, so if Rove told someone to do it, he can't be convicted.

If you set up Matalin, it means Carville will have to shut up. It's like blackmail. Will Carville work hard to get a Dem elected who is less likely to pardon Matlin?
