My son the Instigator.
So I pick my kid up today from his grandma's house where he has been for a long weekend. we drive down the highway, we talk about his vacation and swimming and the fact that his step-grandfather still needs to be respected in spite of his voting republican.

He was sitting in the back seat with his drawing paper and pens and I was listening to sirius radio. I didn't notice an SUV traveling next to me with a carload of kids and bush stickers plastered all over the rear window. My son however did notice the SUV and the stickers and proceeded to draw a very large black W with a line through it. I glanced in my rear view mirror and he was just humming to himself as he was drawing or so I thought.

The next thing I know the young girl (about 12 years old) in the passenger seat of that SUV and her raving lunatic mother started waving their hands about and mouthing obscenities at me. This woman was pacing her car right alongside mine. She was glaringly obvious in her contempt for me and my vehicle. My son starting laughing hysterically in the back seat which cued me that something must be up, so I asked him what he was doing and he handed me his artwork and just beamed with pride.

I couldn't help it I started laughing to myself which just infuriated this woman driving alongside my car. I mouthed to her "What is your problem?" I kept on laughing as she changed lanes to the other side of my car and then she flipped me off. The more I laughed the more incensed she became. Since there was very light traffic I just downshifted and took off and left her big fat SUV in my dust. Laughing all the way of course.

I told my son about the dangers of crazy drivers although I wasn't the best example today he asked me, "Why did that lady freak out?" I told him that the tides are turning and her response was definitely defensive. Something tells me she gets laughed at a lot especially on California highways.

16. I was thinking the little froggie is really cute.
...and then it grinned at me. That was startling! I'm not sure the little froggie is cute any more--especially since it is wearing Novak's dentures.

5. Thanks for the laughs, Gellie!
I love hearing all these anecdotal stories.

I would have loved to see her head explode right there in traffic. And SUCH a Christian example, flipping off people in front of her children.

I can only imagine the obscenities she was hurling. SO very Christian.

:eyes:

Hooray for your son!

except .. tolerance only goes so far. Why give that to republican voters, great-grandfather or not.

I'm fed up. Yeah. Laughing and traffic incidents .. cute, I guess.
Meanwhile real people are being killed every FUCKING DAY due to the insanity.

oh fucking well .. at least we can laugh .. don't get me wrong, the only thing that keeps me sane is laughter .. maybe that's where you are. I just object to giving republican voters ANY KIND OF RESPECT !!! JEEZIZ ..

23. When they're family....
it's always best to tolerate. You never know when they could begin to wake up.

You want to keep those avenues open for negotiation later on. If each one of us gradually works on one Bush voter....you never know what might happen.

I find it admirable that she's teaching her son to respect family, but also think for himself.

FSC it means alot, that is exactly why I am teaching him to be tolerant. In the long run, it is important for him to learn respect for all people including different faiths and political leanings.

43. You're welcome!
Can't say I ALWAYS practice what I preach (;-)), but I do try. It's what liberalism is all about, after all!

I know it worked because I changed my mom from a racist Republican into a Dean volunteer. So I know firsthand!

26. What a great story and a great kid! Applauding here!
My 18 year old son came bounding into my room the other day and said to me, "Mom, you have to see this great tshirt Jo (his girlfriend) got and is letting me wear." I looked at this shirt and started to laugh. It had a picture of the shrub on it. It reads Instant Asshole, Just Add Oil.

Don't you love it when kids really do get it???

27. I'm looking for a black "W" sticker so I can invert it...
... add it to my black "F the President" sticker to produce "MF the President" for the back of my pick-up truck. It will fit nicely with the "Bush Thinks You're Stupid", "When Did Our God Become a Republican?" and "Defend America, Defeat Bush" stickers there already.

I can't find an open Republican headquarters here in Tennessee to get a "W" sticker. Any ideas?

31. you know what we do in similar
situations?

when ever someone flips us the bird, or mouths obsenities,
we smile, and give them the ASL sign for "I love you"-
sounds like foolishness i know, but it FEELS so good-
most people can't respond to that with anything but embarrasment and shame-

honestly-

and when my 21yr old (reborn hippy) son does it, all 6' 200lbs of muscle and testosterone does it, it's so funny to watch.

What it really shows, is that we are NOT 'controlled' by 'them'- WE are still able to be who we are, in the face of their hate, and fear- Maybe someone will be changed by it, and maybe not, but our 'actions' will reflect who we still are- not be RE- actions to them.

Kudo's to you both-
Your son sees live people- he's already way ahead of the game.

32. Your boy sounds charming in a mischievous sort of way...
...but what I can't get over is the woman in the SUV.

An adult getting that worked up over a situation like that? It's like if she was a 12 year old, too. And acting like that while she's driving and should be concentrating on the road, no less.

Any "adult" that nutty shouldn't be allowed a license.

39. Bush supporters are sick, sick people, aren't they?
I mean, their reaction is just so far over the top, so far beyond the bounds of reasonable... it's just astonishing.

These people have real mental problems. The slightest little tweak and they go berserk, as if their sense of self is so weak and fragile that any sign of disagreement is a deadly threat to them. So they lash out, frothing and foaming, threatening violence like some trapped or cornered animal.

Mindless, dangerous, fucked-up freaks. They walk -- and drive -- among us. :scared:
