Another reason to miss the Trudeau days in Canada
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 04:45 PM by HEyHEY
Anyone who read Gordon Gibson's column today (Globe and mail) will appreciate the column, but also the great stories that always come out about Trudeau.
Gibson told a story about back in the 70s when a report came out recommending legalization of pot.
Trudeau (Then Prime Minister) was at a Bull-semen facility and the press was asking him questions in the board room. IN the room there was a chalkboard with a permanent cartoon cow painted on it. A reporter asked Trudeau if he thought Canada should legalize pot. Without missing a beat (or saying anything), Trudeau picks up a piece of chalk, walks over to the cow. He draws a little bubble coming out of it's mouth and writes, "I like grass" in the bubble.

No world leaders have any sense of Humour anymore, none would dare do that. I miss Jean Chretien for the same reason.

HEre's the column... you gotta sign up, but it's free and worth it.

1. Another Trudeau story from my wife
My wife did a lot of work with the Liberal party in the '80s, mostly provincial, but some federal (Jim Karygiannis).

She had a chance to go to a book signing by Trudeau and was really excited.

When it was her turn she said to Trudeau, "I cut my political teeth on your 1980 campaign". To which Trudeau responded immediately, "Oh? And how sharp are your teeth now?"

HE was funny, I'm glad I went to his state.

7. Trudeau, the statesman
Patriotic pride is not my bag, but I made a special exception when Trudeau was in office simply cuz he could talk circles around any of the world leaders of his time. He did this nation proud on the international scene. I'd have loved to hear his take on the Bushco bunch.
