How Many Of You Know Republicans That Refused To Vote Bush?
Edited on Thu Aug-04-05 02:29 PM by DistressedAmerican
Both of my parents voted libertarian. A great relief to me as they live in a swing state where every vote counted. I couldn't get them to support Kerry. My dad kept looking for a reason to do so (I think in good faith) and never found one.

They are both lifelong republicans. My Dad was a president of the Iowa State Young Repugs during the Nixon years. He eventually turned on him when the truth came out.

They hate the religious right taking over the party and they are driven nuts by the endless deficit building. Both oppose the war, especially now that it is clear that there were no weapons were found.

I can proudly say that I can't think of a single person in my family that voted for bush. Even the old school republicans.

I think these folks are really instructive. They provide a window on Republican dissatisfaction with their own party. Their issues are issues we should be sure to hammer and hammer away at.

There are a lot of traditional Republicans whose party left them behind. They can be an asset to us.

Do you know any Republicans that just could not bear the thought of voting for that guy?

Let's hear about them.

Could be a good "know your enemy" exercise!

Made this with dad in mind just after the election. It seemed to be one of the few of my graphics he's ever really found funny.

1. There's a woman who works in my building...
...who's Republican. I see her outside sometimes when I go out for a smoke. She is one of the nicest people I've ever met and she always comes to mind when I find myself on the verge of trashing all Republicans. I have to check myself and remember that they are not all bad. Anyway, she did NOT vote for Bush and made a point of telling me so a few years ago during his first term. She can't stand him. I wish there were ALOT more like her.

5. to be honest, not many
but, I know a lot that held their noses & voted Bush last year because the RW media machine so successfully demonized Kerry that they thought Bush was the lesser of 2 evils.

8. I'm with you.
They didn't want to but felt Kerry was no better. Trust me - I tried endlessly to sway them! But most of my friends are in NY anyway which always goes blue so we're pretty safe here.

7. My mother and grandparents
My mother used to be a republican. She told our now mayor last April she no longer affiliated with them. My grandparents both voted for Kerry as well and they're republicans. My grandfather thought he was a moron and my grandmother said "we have to get Bush out." My grandfather was a navy vet and was an Elder in his church for twenty-seven years and was a REAL Christian.

THE BIG BETRAYAL IN WASHINGTON
By David Grossack Updated: 4/25/2005

I have been a Republican since the age of 18. I am a member of the Hull Republican Town Committee and have been for about 20 years. I have long believed that the Republican Party symbolized the best hopes for all Americans of attaining prosperity through freedom. I have believed that Republicans wanted to limit the size of government, reduce taxes for everybody and return the country to a pre-New Deal ideal of self-reliance, responsibility and fairness.

I have strongly promoted George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, the Party and the principles for which I hope the Party stood.

I am being disappointed.

I am watching what is going on in Washington and I instead see a small clique of wealthy and powerful launching economic warfare against the majority of the American people. At a time when Republicans control both the White House and the Congress, what an opportunity for greatness is being squandered on a program of seemingly mean spirited legislation that caters to special interests.

12. Dad's best friend.
Lifelong conservative Republican. Voted for Nixon, Reagan, Bush I. He's never liked Bush II, and voted for Nader in 2000 and Kerry in 2004.

Also, my computer teacher. He's a libertarian leaning, Pataki-style Repub (or was, he now a libertarian). Socially liberal, fiscally conservative, he changed his party reg to libertarian and voted for Badnarik (after voting for Reagan, Bush I, Dole and Bush II in 2000).

Didnt plan,it just worked out that way.The only ones I do know are several members of my family which I tried very hard to change their minds but couldnt.Hasnt caused any major problems though.I cant force them to vote for someone any more than they can force me.They are realizing I was right about him anyway.
