NY TIMES INVESTIGATES ADOPTION RECORDS OF SUPREME COURT NOMINEE'S CHILDREN

**Exclusive**

The NEW YORK TIMES is looking into the adoption records of the children of Supreme Court Nominee John G. Roberts, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Both children were adopted from Latin America.

A TIMES insider claims the look into the adoptions records are part of the paper's "standard background check."

One top Washington official with knowledge of the NEW YORK TIMES’ plans declared: “Trying to pry into the lives of the Roberts’ family like this is despicable. Children’s lives should be off limits. The TIMES is putting politics over fundamental decency.”

That, I'd like to know about.

8. Why do they have bright blonde hair? All of my friends from LaAm have
dark hair. I suppose I could be generalizing, but most Latinos don't have naturally blonde hair.

38. They were probably from an upper crust family.
Many of the elite in South America have pure Spanish blood and thus are more likely to have blond hair than the average population in S.A. ( who are mostly mestizo and mulatto).

3. Well this also goes to the illusion taht the NY Times
works for the Democratic party. It'd be one thing if Howard Dean directed the DNC to go into this; I'd be a little wiggy about that, in all honesty. But the New York Times is a newspaper - they are supposed to go after the news. How well they do that is a matter of some debate, but in theory they should be non-partisan and only interested in finding out the facts.

16. Adopting children is admirable.
Sometimes the preferences people express when applying to adopt children tell something about their attitudes about race, religion, disability, etc. It is legitimate to ask questions about a Supreme Court nominee's attitudes toward race, religion, disability, etc. It is unlikely that the nominee is going to admit that he or she prefers a certain race, religion or state of health. An adoption application might reveal certain preferences that call for an explanation. It might at least start an interesting discussion about these issues. The Times is right to investigate the adoption papers.

If they really did adopt these children according to the law why would they be so outraged? Very interesting.

9. let them investigate it
we're not getting much info about this guy--and i keep wondering if they decided to adopt after he helped out in the 2000 election and talked to jebbie. (wondering if jebbie put the bug in his ear that he'd look better with a couple of kids when he gets nominated for supreme court)

I believe the children were dragged out to show what an alright, upright guy Roberts is. The "Father Knows Best" family was onstage that day.

26. Isn't it possible that....
the adoption records are just part of a whole pile of "papers" released by the candidate that the NYTimes is going over (as they should) and Drudge is just making absurd noise about it?
We haven't seen anything about this in the Times yet, have we?
And anyway, if there's anything corrupt about the adoptions, shouldn't we know? The adorable wee ones were certainly front and center at the annointing.

27. I've been reading some of the messages over at that other
website linked above. It's really funny at how "outraged" they are at the NYTimes. And they keep saying leave the kids out of this. Well I doubt the NYTimes is investigating the kids, freepers. Use your brains. And why oh why do they always insert the Clinton's whenever they disagree with what is going on with any Republican?

Maybe the biological parents just lived there but weren't born there.

34. They could have been adopted from Argentina
where there are significant populations of German and English immigrants.

But Argentina isn't a typical source for adoptions. It's usually Guatemala or Colombia or some other poor country.
