What is there to teach? If Bush* actually gets his way and ID is taught
How can it last through a nine month period? What laws would be taught? How would teachers prepare for their classes? Intelligence disigned the Universe and all Life forms. Okay now recess. What more is there?

2. I want to be an intelligent design or creation scientist
And maybe I can even recieve federal funds to teach it.

Seems to me like it would be the easiest job in the world.

4. I am going to be a teacher
I student teach this fall. If I have has to use the Bible as curriculum in a public school, I will quit.

I am religous and attend church at least 2 times a month (hey, who is perfect?). But I just don't think it should be taught in a PUBLIC school.

Sorry that I didn't address your question, but I had to get this off my chest. I am interested in others answers.

6. Good for you. Stick to your guns. No way would I ever teach
what Bush is advocating. I'm a retired teacher...biology/chemistry major/minor. I taught for 32 years and never was asked to teach anything unscientific.

I think all one could tell students about ID is that God made it...no matter what "it" is. What else is there in this school? of thought? Of course this dumbass wants to refute evolution. We realize that he doesn't have the capacity to "evolve" as noted in his stubborn stance on everything. He's power hungry and that's all that matters to him.

Guess he's never been to the Smithsonian Institution to see all of the fossil evidence...what a dumb fuck!

18. I've been there...
Everything was "mold of" or "copy of" or "resin cast model of"....very disappointing, though I believe many of the dinosaur bones were real, and the taxidermied animals, too (the tiger was my favorite).

Oh, and by no means am I trying to refute the evidence of the Smithsonian, I'm well aware they keep the valuable crap locked up in their basements. XD

9. It should be taught as an elective
even here (in Texas) it'll be an elective in literature. I just don't see how it will be of much value, the kids are already swamped with core courses and more valuable electives, not to mention the required tests for NCLB.

Even my kids' biology teachers (and my kids verified this) mention ID as a theory only and then the teacher moves on to evolution and teaches to that.

Any of this is subject to change and progressives need to keep an eye on these.

11. Once again - time for the Flying Spaghetti Monster

President Bush supports Flying Spaghetti Monsterism. "I think that part of education is to expose people to different schools of thought," Bush said. "You're asking me whether or not people ought to be exposed to different ideas, the answer is yes."

We have evidence that a Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe. None of us, of course, were around to see it, but we have written accounts of it. We have several lengthy volumes explaining all details of His power. Also, you may be surprised to hear that there are over 10 million of us, and growing. We tend to be very secretive, as many people claim our beliefs are not substantiated by observable evidence. What these people don’t understand is that He built the world to make us think the earth is older than it really is. For example, a scientist may perform a carbon-dating process on an artifact. He finds that approximately 75% of the Carbon-14 has decayed by electron emission to Nitrogen-14, and infers that this artifact is approximately 10,000 years old, as the half-life of Carbon-14 appears to be 5,730 years. But what our scientist does not realize is that every time he makes a measurement, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is there changing the results with His Noodly Appendage. We have numerous texts that describe in detail how this can be possible and the reasons why He does this. He is of course invisible and can pass through normal matter with ease.

12. There is *nothing* to teach.
Edited on Wed Aug-03-05 12:31 PM by longship
All the creationist literature is full of biblical references and justifications. ID attempts to purge that but one is then left with an "unwhole" explanation. ID begs questions about its creator which cannot be answered in a public school science classroom.

There is no curriculum which passes muster.

One of the creationists logical fallacies is presuming that any evidence against evolution is evidence for creationism. Of course this is just plain cuckoobananas. Ask any creationist for a statement of what their "science" entails, what it predicts, what testable effects it contains, and you will get a lot of hemming and hawing. Without such things they cannot be called science. And that includes ID creationists, too.

The end result of this is that so-called creation scientists waste their time doing silly research. Human footprints amongst those of dinosaurs, searching for Noah's ark, looking for chariots at the bottom of the Red Sea, and other non-scientific rubbish. They are hopelessly uneducated in geology, physics, and other related disciplines. Most of them have degrees in engineering or theology, not science.

on edit: I *love* the Spaghetti Monster!!

14. I have no idea.
What can they say but "This universe is so big with all kinds of life and planets and galaxies that something must have created it." That would be the end of the lesson, wouldn't it?

Intelligent design is not a theory, it's a belief. You can't teach that in a classroom. You can't apply the scientific method to it.

If parents want their children to be taught intelligent design, take them to a church.
