G'night Tucker Carlson......

MSNBC Shifts Tucker Carlson to Late Night

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television WriterFri Jul 29, 2:56 PM ET

MSNBC will shift Tucker Carlson's low-rated talk show out of prime-time in much of the country to 11 p.m. EDT, with ex-Fox News Channel anchor Rita Cosby filling his time slot.

Since its debut June 13, the bow-tied conservative's show has averaged 201,000 viewers, 25 percent fewer than its time-slot predecessor, "The Abrams Report," had in May, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Carlson's was the first new prime-time show developed since Rick Kaplan took over as MSNBC president last year. Kaplan said Friday the switch wasn't a demotion, that he had considered Carlson's program for 11 p.m. all along, but that "it would have been a mess" if he had said that publicly from the beginning.

He conceded MSNBC might have switched plans if "The Situation with Tucker Carlson" had caught fire in the ratings.

"I couldn't be more psyched," said Carlson, who said he had unsuccessfully pushed CNN for an 11 p.m. show when he worked there.

Carlson's program will air live at an hour that its competitors show reruns.

Tucker will be working for cable access in 6 months.

6. how could it not be? Just what does the "MS" stand for anyway?
Just think how bad their operating systems are, and you get a clue of their approach to the real world.

His contract probably says they can opt out if his ratings suck.

Seems nobody likes bowtie boy.

18. Synergy
Edited on Sat Jul-30-05 07:33 PM by Moochy
This is why the market forces can't act upon the failures of MSNBC.

If a tentacle of the octopus is infected, and even dies, there is no market force to come along and kill the organism, since it's just a tentacle. The tentacle keeps getting reanimated by the MSNBC execs despite what would be in the best interest of the shareholders (market interest)

Media Octopi dont act in their own best interest as independent corporations, since the boardmembers are uncritical unthinking yes men who have a mixed portfolio. Most of the boardmembers speak for the interests of the synergy industries which use media for its real purpose, the place where you lie to the american people via press releases, and expect a sympathetic establishment ear.

Tucker is just a sucker on the tentacle of MSNBC-GE.

And when is the last time anyone ever heard something bad about GE? Much less MS?

10. you know to be honest
I kinda like Tucker Carlson. I don't have agree with his ideas, but he is probably the most polite conservative pundit on the face of the Earth, and someone should give him credit for it. He also helps to burst the ridiculous stereotype that all Repubs are cranky old fogeys.

That being said, Jon will eat him alive. haha!

He's had a good opposition debater the two or three times I caught it.

Rachel Maddow, and the ESPN guy were pretty good at tearing apart his conservative talking points.

But he still gets the memo from RNC HQ.

they make the show for me. And I hate that their message won't be heard now that they are essentially burying him in the 11pm time slot to make room for Rita Cosby. Thank God Countdown wasn't moved or messed with in any way though!

That's not far from 200 viewers in the overall scheme of things.

Looks like America's Republican media establishment and their dogged efforts to appeal to the extreme right are really paying off.

Are these people stupid...Stewart is going to kick Tucker's ass again...this time in ratings. Tucker Carlson's show is already the lowest rated talk show at it's current slot, and it's probably going to sink even lower.:dunce:

30. What? No mention of the FIRING of Jimmy "Jay Severin" Severino?
Severino was on Situation for a few weeks -- until he was canned. The press flaks claimed Severin left because of the commute -- but Secaucus and New York have been abuzz about allegations of the sort of misconduct a married man should not be engaged in on the part of Severino. One source told a gossip maven for the NY Daily News that Severin has in effect been banned from MSNBC.

Different time, same 'Situation'

Carlson's show becomes first only live cable news program at 11 p.m. ET

Updated: 4:22 p.m. ET July 29, 2005

SECAUCUS, N.J. - MSNBC announced today that "The Situation with Tucker Carlson" will move to its new time, 11 p.m. ET, offering viewers the only first-run live cable news program at 11 p.m.ET/8 p.m. PT. "Rita Cosby: Live and Direct" will premiere in the 9 p.m. ET time period. Both of these changes will be effective Monday, August 8. The announcement was made by Rick Kaplan, president of MSNBC.

I am glad he is being buried but a) Cosby is even worse and b) wish even more it were Scarborough
