so how many raped children does it take to get a American on the street?
serious question, can anyone put a number on this because im curious?
when is it enough?

I have tried to look for any historical precedent and the closest thing i could find is the dutroux case in belgium in 1996.
The Belgian people furious at government coverup of childabuse took to the streets in a series of "white marches" in which about 3% of the WHOLE population participated (10,000,000 population in 2001, 300,000 marched)

So when is enough enough for the American people?
Are Americans really different from other people?
If one goes by the flag-waving one would say the Americans are a proud and heroic people.
If one goes by the facts that the rest of the world sees, well what can i say?

goodmorning DU,have a nice day :)

1. they have to know about it
before they can get mad enough to march.

Problem is, people honestly don't know about it...even people who consider themselves informed.

2. hell, even once they know about it
they wont care unless its a blue-eyed, blond-haired girl on vacation - they wont give two rats asses about some brown muslim kid in iraq - doubly so if they think it's keeping them safe.

as long as they have their 57 channels, A/C, yellow ribbon, beer and steak, the avg american is keeping his ass firmly planted in his seat

5. I don't think that is true
I don't know where, but I read a thread here at DU yesterday about somebody talking to a stranger in line at a Post Office about the idiots running the village. The stranger was apparently fairly well informed (or so they thought) and none too happy about the misadministration, but still went nutso when informed of the child rapes. Could not believe it. Didn't know anything about it.

One of the problems with DU is also one of its greatest strengths--that it is a gathering point for so much information. We here at DU tend to think that everyone has access to this much info and so if they aren't rioting in the streets it is because they just don't care. But that is not the truth. It's not reality.

Reality is that most people truly do not know.

It's easy to simply bash all of our fellow citizens as willfully uninformed, but it isn't the truth, and it won't help us to cling to this delusion.

Just my 2 pennies.

4. not personal, but there ARE NO EXCUSES for child rape
not knowing is not really a valid excuse, you know?why dont "they"?
not knowing is a choice.
you tell everyone you know?
Its over 1 whole year since this news came out and NOTHING has happened.

again, nothing personal,i know people here are "ok"

13. This entire administration
has been doing their own rape of young children since way back in the 80's. Go back and look at Franklin Credit Union. Georgie Sr. was the rat pack leader of abusing children. This administration doesn't care, they are probably figuring out a way that they can transport those kids to the white house for their own personal use (Jeff Gannon is grown up you know?). These people are way more sick then anyone gives them credit for. If they only knew.

3. So many Americans like to talk the talk
freedom, compassion, etc., but walk the walk? That`s another story. If we cared half as much about the horror we`re inflicting on others as we do getting our cars washed, we`d be doing something.

8. The American people will not even get on the streets to
protect their own children. Do you seriously expect them to get on the street to demand the safety of a people that they have been told to fear?

10. I think you are correct and thought for a moment
the poster was talking about the rape & abuse of children in this country - why haven't we done more in this country? We haven't done "more" in a lot of countries including our own.

12. White Christian children, or heathen brown children?
For too many Americans, there's a difference in terms of their humanity and whether they deserve human rights.
