jeez, San Diago is coming apart at the seams

This is their kind of town ... San Diego is

Outside of Chicago, it would be hard to find a more bizarre political drama than the one in San Diego.

Tuesday's election for mayor, which will be the third time in 16 months that San Diego voters have had to choose one, is the latest act in the city's ongoing civic theater, revealing the dark political underbelly of perpetually sunny San Diego.

-snip-

The plot spans the matters of bribes to a strip club owner; city workers' pensions facing a shortfall of $1.4 billion, and a municipal financial collapse so severe that San Diego, a place studded with some of the most expensive homes in the nation, cannot borrow money.

Scandals have reduced the nine-member City Council by a third and have led to a rotating cast of mayors, three in four days last week. After one mayor resigned and his successor was ousted because of a federal bribery conviction, a council member assumed the job amid so much confusion that, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, a colleague addressed her as "madam mayor pro tem, whatever. Who knows?"

4. My BIL tried to explain it to me last night
After my sister gave up saying, "it's hard to understand if you're not a Californian." She grew up in Queens! When did she become a Californian?

They voted for Donna Frye for Mayor. She won if the votes were counted. But many votes were not counted because, even though the name was written clear, a circle wasn't filled in. Although, if a vote for the corrupt mayor was marked with an X, the circle was filled in by the vote counters. But, hey. So the corrupt mayor was "elected" and now....that's when it starts to get murky.

Really, really murky. Republicans going to jail. Could it be the start of a national trend?

6. "America is a Crime Scene"
Funny how these bastards get away with it from city government to the highest office in the land. And I mean GET AWAY WITH IT! Think about all the YEARS we've heard about the Mafia and how evil they are! How is this ANY different?! Even in a little town near where I live those "in charge" stole the hell out of the city money and then once they were gone, the new ones "in charge" asked voters to pay more taxes to keep the city and police force afloat! EXCUSE ME???!!! :wtf:

How stupid are we all to put up with this shit?! Our taxes are going down the drain while the mentally ill end up homeless, the homeless die of heat stroke, the disabled have to beg for services and our children get half an education!!! And that's just the tip of the iceberg since I didn't mention NAFTA, CAFTA, Outsourcing and the disappearing middle class! :grr:

We are being robbed-not blindly mind you-but with our eyes wide open and a smile on our faces! :puke:

When in the HELL is it ever going to end???!!! Oh, yeah, guess that will be when HELL FREEZES OVER!!!

7. San Diego has always had the worst bunch of elected officials
of any major US city. Remember Mayor Roger Hedgecock?
