This Wedding Crashers/Purple Heart Flap...
I don't have a link but apparently the deal is that on the Wedding Crashers web site they have fake purple hearts you can print out and as a joke they say you can crash a wedding and get girls by saying you have a purple heart.

Well apparently congress and vets groups are up in arms and making a big hoo-ha over this. I can understand that since it is a very sacred thing. But not ONE of the articles I've read (sorry I don't have any links) makes mention of the right wing apologists who mocked anyone who got upset at the purple heart band aids the chickenhawks at the republican convention were handing out to mock Kerry. Pathetic.

1. Yes, that should be equally offensive.

5. That is just SO much more offensive.
If I were God, I'd inflict that woman with a serious case of weeping boils.

2. Where were they during the Swiftboat Scumbag incidents?
I mean, why weren't they all screaming about the Swiftboat group that attacked and demeaned Kerry's Purple Hearts??? How many of those screaming about a dumb movie actually voted for Bush, even though his minions attacked the sanctity of Kerry's Purple Hearts?

3. It's not the same as the Republican "joke"
Here's the Wedding Crasher site: www.theweddingcrashers.com/

It's a silly website promoting a silly movie. (Not that there's anything wrong with silliness.)

I was unable to find links indicating that anyone has taken this seriously.

4. the Republicans have added insult
(literally) to injury. Purple Hearts have now become suspect. Here these poor soliders are, wounded, and what should have been bestowed as an honor for their putting their life on the line, has become tainted by political hacks bent on portraying their boy (who went AWOL) as a warrior. Of course, in order to build Boy George up, they had to tear Kerry apart. Hence, the "funny" little Purple Heart band-aids.
Well, guess what that has done to the soldiers in Iraq who've been wounded? The Purple Heart has become a very suspect honor. People who are in pain and will be injured for life are jeered by "what happened to you? Get scratched by an angry old Iraqi woman?"
My son (a Marine on his second tour in Iraq) says his buddies have turned town Purple Hearts after getting shrapnel from roadside bombs because they think the distinction will leave them open to ridicule.
This is how the Republicans support the troops.

7. That is so sad!!!
and more should be made of it. My uncle died in WWII and got the Purple Heart posthumously. It's something we're all very proud of. I am not offended by jokes about it in silly movies. I AM offended by the repukes who try to deny the validity of a purple heart given to a wounded man (JK). It's the latter and NOT the former that cheapens the idea of the medal.

9. I looked at the website promo and
it could certainly look offensive to people who haven't seen the movie, and I agree that to some degree it is, in fact, offensive. However, I have seen the movie and in it's context I don't consider it offensive. In the movie, yes, they are using them to get dates but the premise is that women will respect them because of the medals, thus getting them dates. Like most of these kinds of comedies, it's about bad boys doing bad things that are funny because they are bad and wrong (that's where the medals come in in the first place). Nine times out of ten, said bad boys learn a lesson and end up doing the right thing. Guess what? In the movie, Vince and Owen learn a lesson.

I guess it just bothers me that the nation seems to have lost its sense of humor over innocent things (this movie and its stupid promotion that most people won't even know about), yet when it comes to the GOP and their truly offensive mockery and disrespect to the medals and what they stand for, well that's just A-OK.

It's enough to make you want to smack your head against a pile of bricks for a while, isn't it?
