Bush Threatens to Veto Attempts to Regulate, Investigate Abu Ghraib Torture

http://www.dailykos.com/

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Thursday threatened to veto a massive Senate bill for $442 billion in next year's defense programs if it moves to regulate the Pentagon's treatment of detainees or sets up a commission to investigate operations at Guantanamo Bay prison and elsewhere.

3. I know. I just read about it on Daily Kos
...and I've put my two cents on my blog just now, although I don't pretend to have done justice to this magificent yet casual evil of the madministration.

of his torture camps?

This is the same bunch that twisted the record to find instances of Kerry's opposition to military spending. He actually good reasons. This bunch is doing it as blackmail, all right out in the open... and the self-proclaimed Super Patriots don't care?

Why is this man not being impeached right now?

12. What effin HYPOCRISY ! ! ! !
"If legislation is presented that would restrict the president's authority to protect Americans effectively from terrorist attack and bring terrorists to justice," the bill could be vetoed, the statement said.

Like cutting a DEFENSE SPENDING BILL won't hurt his hand in "protect"(ing) AMERICANS? HUH?

Let's see. Exactly how does torture "protect" Americans?
Gitmo has been referred to as a terrorist training camp.

Abu Ghraib sure did "protect" us, didn't it?

SOMEBODY "protect" us from this lunatic! Before it's too late.

Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, who endured torture as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, said after meeting at the Capitol with Vice President Dick Cheney that he still intended to offer amendments next week "on the standard of treatment of prisoners."

16. I have no trouble understanding Bush's decision.
Didn't the Brits start war crimes prosecutions against 3 of their soldiers recently? Bush was probably rummaging around in the Oval Office desk and found President Harry Truman's sign "The Buck Stops Here."and it put quite the chill into him. Bush expects to run the Executive Branch on a "need to know" basis and evidently Americans (and the World) don't need to know. He doesn't even trust the Congress when it comes to US security! :grr:

17. Orwell would be proud
The executive branch under this administration is seizing power with a megalomaniacal zeal reminiscent of 1930's Germany, and yet we hear not so much as a peep of protest from the hypocritical "small-government conservatives." This is a direct attack on the Congress's investigative and oversight responsibilities, and the GOP is going to lay back and let it happen. McCain and Graham are both sycophants who put party loyalty above professional responsibility. They'll cave in to any demands the White House makes. If Cheney tells them to drop their amendments, they will, and the country will take one more step closer to fascism.

18. Why do Dems vote for this Goddamned Occupation in the 1st
place?

The 1st Bill that this most likely to get a veto is Stem Cell Research. Let's see if the Congress has the courage to over ride that one.

21. The TRUTH is their biggest enemy, and they know it!
All that they've hidden (or attempted to hide) will hit the light of day at some point. And, when it does, the American People will know a remorse similar to what ordinary Germans felt at the close of WW2 (of course, except for those of us who have known the truth about this group of criminals for a long time).
