Re: Walter Pinkus on Charlie Rose---
(an earlier alert was posted under the subject "Charlie Rose"

Pinkus looked like he was sitting on something. He wouldn't be led to speculating, but he did says that this Plame thing was something big.

If it comes on at a couple of different times like it does here, try to catch it. Pinkus is on right at the beginning of the show.

3. Wasn/t Pinkus one of the six reporters who received the Plame
info from Rove ? Unlike Cooper he is a seasoned WH reporter and probably understood the implications and incorrectness of the leak on a much different level.

5. Yes, he was.
He immediately called Wilson, and warned him, "They are coming after you now." More, the White House official who spoke to him said they had realized the worst mistake they ever made was to admit that Wilson was correct about the Niger monkey business. In the weeks after, they began the attempt to justify the infamous "16 words" with more baloney from British intelligence. Even today, on the cable news, there has been misinformation spewed forth about the British actually having information that indicates there was some truth to the Cheney lie about Iraq seeking uranium. That lie gets propped up in the strangest places.

Pincus did testify, as he had the releases from both Libby and Rove.

4. Pinkus works closely with the CIA
His reporting for the NY Times usually reveals insider info from the CIA.. which makes it an interesting perspective. Especially at the moment!

actions as non-criminal in nature many times.

He NEVER reported the many CIA agents who came forward in the fall of 2002 to say Bush was cooking the intel books on Iraq.

Only Knight Ridder's team did that - Landay, Strobel, and Walcott.

8. I'm sure you are correct,
Pinkus is at least loyal to Bush Senior's crowd. I heard an interview with Bush Sr. earlier this year, where he told a cute story and referred to the subject (a reporter) of his cute story involving a bible as "Walt". I had to assume he was referring to Walter Pincus and clearly Walt was on very friendly terms!

But is it completely clear that Bush Senior is on board with Bush Junior's administration and their scapegoating of the CIA.

9. I think he's ambivalent but comes down on Shrub's side. After all, his WH
is getting alot of its own secrets covered up by THIS one.

The roots of 9-11 and the entire Mideast and war policies are rooted firmly in Bush1's BCCI dealings.

10. Pinkus was waffling badly last nite-partly trivializing some info and
at the same time making veiled reservations that something big could come of it.

Either way, Pincus gets to say: I told ya so...even though he didn't say a damned thing.

7. Saw it last night too...
Pincus was very careful in what he said while Rose really tried to pin him down. Pincus did say that Fitzgerald would not be investigating Rove if he wasn't very very very serious about it and that Fitzgerald is nothing if not a very serious guy. Very interesting...
