I had a conservative background. My parents made sure we went to church, saved our money and insisted we do the right thing. From the time we were small we were taught 3 things: 1. You can achieve anything you set your mind to 2. If you have to make a decision and you aren't sure which is the correct one, the one that is the hardest is generally the way to go. 3.Take care of and respect your resources, natural or otherwise because they will serve you later in life. In other words, if you have a chance to hurt someone, don't. If you could get away with something that you know isn't right, don't. Whatever you do leave it better than when you got there and don't let anyone ever tell you you can't achieve your dreams.
My point is I always thought I was a conservative. Liberal didn't apply to me until I started to pay attention. I was raised a liberal but my parents taught that it conservative. The values of the bush republican and neocon religious are malevolent not conservative. A true conservative in my upbringing was a reasonable being that to me is actually a liberal. I wonder how many others are really open minded liberals? A liberal has deep and lasting values that aren't easily changed by selfish desire. I am a tree hugging liberal and proud of it. :patriot:
