Prediction: Dumbya is gonna pick a wack job for the SCOTUS
He needs a circus side show now. He isn't just going to pick a nominee, because if he is reasonable, they will be approved without much adieu - he needs to pick a right-wing psychopath. Opinions?

3. I agree, he can blame others for failure to get confirmation, but
he'll have the holy rollers speaking in tongues to drown out Rovegate.

4. Yeah, payoff to the base
A distracting war over a Supreme Court nominee is just the ticket for Bush now, and it's also a cheap payoff to the base. Bush/Cheney et al care far less about "gay marriage" than they do about building their controlling oligarchy in this country through driving the money to an elite few. That and raw power motivate them (and quality judges stand in their way on the latter), which means they will throw the mostly gullible "religious Right" a bone in the form of, as you so accurately put it, a whackjob. Why do people still hold out hope of reason and moderation from this guy? It was always going to be a whackjob; just a difference of degrees. Now, we can expect The Worst.

5. If he does I think it will backfire
But I'm hysterically optimistic at the moment. The majority in this country don't want an exremist on the supreme court. Not that that stopped them with everything else-but turn, turn, turn, everything has a season-Chimpboy's summer of discontent is upon him.

8. If He Does That
It will hopefully get everyone even more ticked off at him and his audacity, that they'll really start to revolt, and a real chance could exist to take him down.

Is it significant that Shrub's ratings are considerably lower than Clinton's were when he was impeached. Most of that took place, even though most people liked Clinton, and felt good about the state of the country, unlike now.

28. If a revolt hasn't happened yet, it won't ever.
I'm convinced people don't care about the country but are more concerned about their wallets instead.

While a glib generalization and that some people would revolt if the impetus and catalyst existed, people would rather shoot each other and take their food for themselves than band together.

9. I Agree....I'm Betting Janice Rogers Brown...I Did Think Gonzalez....
who I think he really wants to name, but he needs a distraction...

Now one theory is he needs a win, so will pick a moderate, but remember, Rove is calling the shots and protecting his own ass, regardless of whether it's the best thing for the President himself.

I think Rove will mandate a nutcase for that reason...

Hope I'm wrong...

sure to take everyone's eyes off KKKarl. Because the nominee for SCOTUS is one of the most important decisions this worthless loser can make.

17. I've been predicting that from the beginning...
Bush picks somebody so extreme & radical & outspoken that even Lieberman joins the filibuster against him... MoveOn & others spend millions in ads to defeat him or her... massive activism on our side.

Nominee is defeated.

Then, Bush nominates somebody that is just as extreme, but very soft spoken, and he/she is promoted as a moderate... and, our side, having shot our load on the first nominee are too worn out to put up that much of a fight and nominee is confirmed 65-35.

Same thing happened with Robert Bork, and we get Tony Scalia who is arguably worse, and is also 10 years or so younger.

18. He said he would pick someone from the mainstream.
Trouble is, he thinks Pat Robertson, James Dobson and Jerry Falwell are in the mainstream. I've always thought he would pick a right-wing bat-shit-crazy nutcase, mainly because upsetting his "base" like those mentioned above carries far worse consequences than upsetting a few moderates who will eventually "get over it."

But your point is well taken: with Rovegate spiraling out of control, they are in desparate need of a good distraction right now. What better way to turn the spotlight off of this little embarassment and onto other hot topics, all while rallying the base to cheer on the coming theocracy and the glory of the Lord!

Hallelujah!

Praise the Lord!

Amen!

Uh, Karl Who?

I do think he will pick a woman to fill O'Connor's spot. She will not be a moderate although she will be portrayed as one on TV.

Let the games begin. And let us hope the Dems have the balls to do the right thing.
