I am, by no stretch of any sane man's imagination, a prolific reader. But since I was turned on to them in 2002, I've read all the Discworld novels, and Good Omens by Terry and Neil Gaiman, at least twice, save for his latest, Going Postal, which I will have a second read of soon. He's a magnificent storyteller.

If you've read any of the Watch books (Guard! Guards!, Feet of Clay, Men at Arms etc.) the last one written, Night Watch, is his best ever imho.

As it is, they're having to grasp at scripts from the White House, rather than their own perceptions, to keep coming up with reasons to defend this crap, and their continued belief in it.

Some aren't too bright -- understandable. Some are sociopaths, like Rove -- regretable. But many are simply humanly selfish, stubborn, and unaware. There are some here on DU who've woken up from the lies. We should be ready to catch the ones who accept the truth in front of them, and welcome them to reality, cause it's gotta hurt.

(But as for the greedy sociopaths, fuck 'em.)

I've seen that sort of denial in fundamentalists Christians. They've based their entire lives on lies and will do anything to continue believing. I admit I have a hard time feeling sorry for them because of the pain they caused me when I finally admitted the truth to myself. Not only do they have to continue to believe, they must force their beliefs on others so as not to feel threatened.

I am trying to soften my heart toward them as I remember what I went through, but because they actively hurt me, it is hard.
