Not only is the war not over, but we're not winning it.
All war all the time

"...President Bush's proclamation of victory in Iraq is looking more than slightly premature. The pace of fighting there is picking up, not slowing down,

as American troops face Baathists, gangs of looters, Shiites, Arab fedayeen (who are still coming into Iraq to fight us), Wahabi mujahedeen, and so on. Because these enemies are not states, they have nothing we can bomb, no tanks we can take out, no capital we can occupy. And each one is a Hydra: Every time we kill an enemy, we recruit more..."

Bush has snookered us into the worst of all possible scenarios. In spite of his prancing around dressed as a phony warrior on a aircraft carrier, and celebrating his "victory", our troops are dying daily as the Iraq war slips into a terrible Fourth Generation conflict that Bush has no idea how to wage or even win.

But aren't you glad we secured the oil fields?

1. Secured the oil fields?
How long do they now say it will be before they pump oil at the level Iraq used to? How much vandalism is still being done in the oil fields? Dubya may try to take us to war with Iran in hopes of securing their oil, given that the Iraqi oil operation has been such a mess.

2. It's Vietnam all over again
And the neocons can't deny it, history speaks for itself.

Just like in Vietnam, our troops are not just fighting "Saddam loyalists", but a bunch of different groups who all want the US out of Iraq. In Vietnam, we weren't just fighting the North Vietnamese army, we were also fighting the Viet Cong's guerilla attacks, and attacks from irregular Chinese forces. And just like in Vietnam, it is IMPOSSIBLE to look at an Iraqi citizen and tell just by looking at them if they are "Saddam loyalists", just like it was impossible to look at a Vietnamese person and arbitrarily say "Oh, that's a North Vietnamese person, shoot 'im!"

This war is completely fucked, and has been from the beginning.
