Rant Warning...Saje goes off...
The RW pundits and RW wacko politicians are pounding us with a set of talking points about the Rove/Plame/Wilson affair, obviously written by someone with some skill at spin (hmmm...Karl Rove, perhaps?)...and all the Democrats can do is sputter feebly at the WH about how he should be fired?

Where's the goddam MESSAGE? Why is it that the Republicans can stay on subject and fire bullet after bullet while the Dems stand back and insist on fighting the war like a bunch of snipers rather than any kind of real coalition?

How has 'outing an intelligent agent' good for National Security? Who else in the WH knew he'd done it? How far UP does this go? Cheney? Hey, there's someone who's been out of the spotlight lately. How's Dick doing, anyway?

Every single Dem with a set of vocal cords should be shouting from the rooftops by now. Warning! Warning! National Security comes second to Republican partisan wrangling! Republican Party Script mandatory for ALL foreign agents of the U.S. government--whether CIA or Diplomatic corps. Forget about the truth! If you're an American, you're a REPUBLICAN.

They told you what to say!

Remember "You're either WITH US or AGAINST US!" Translation: "If you step out of line, we'll throw you to the wolves."

The sheer unmitigated GALL of these corrupt assholes sinks into my skull until I think it's going to explode from the pressure.

And I hear recent polls don't show the Democrats gaining much ground. Why is that? Oh, yeah...because there's no UNITY among Dems. We don't need our reps parroting one another, but we sure as hell need them to start using the same DAMN LANGUAGE.

It's easy, guys. "Looks like Rove's a traitor." "What do you call someone who abets a traitor?--a collaborator. A fellow conspirator. Accessory before, during, AND/OR after the fact." "How many of our agents did this leak kill?" "Is that how this administration rewards those who serve America? By putting their lives on the line every day?"

Not a crime? Okay, let's assume this to be the case, though I have SERIOUS doubts about this one...

Who the fuck told Rove it wasn't a crime BEFORE he did it? Did he know it wasn't a crime? Did he care?

Who's next? That's what the CIA ops are asking themselves. If they bring back intelligence this nitwit regime doesn't want to hear, will THEY be tossed in the lion den next time?

This administration has a lot to answer for. See, one thing the mainstream press is trying to forget...this whole mess PROVES the Downing Street Memo.

ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? Why hasn't ONE of our guys stood up and said, calmly, "Well, I guess this more or less PROVES the Downing Street Memos, doesn't it?"

1. deep breaths -- it's coming out and the WH press corps has found
their voice again. it just hasn't filtered down to the talking heads yet. and remember -- not all of politics gets played out on TV. sometimes there's good reason to let them hang themselves with their TPs. it's wednesday -- wait and take the temperature of the press again after this weekend.

the story right now is, even tho london burned, the Rove story hasn't been buried. remember how it looked like we might not hear any more about it? well... that didn't happen.

but i do agree with you, the dems are not getting out there with the DSM/Plamegate connection.

but don't bludgeon yourself -- now might be a good time for some BEN AND JERRY'S! i've already had mine for the night. :)

2. I'm with you! But saying this Rove thing "proves the Downing Street
Memos" is not correct imo. The DSM prove themselves! Until the media responds with the power they now may have (since the man that I believe has been threatening their jobs is in the hot-seat)we wont be heard. We have the DU Activist Corp that I see you've joined, and we intend to bombard the media and our elected officials until they have NO CHOICE but to report and respond to the truth! Perhaps the pressure has not been hard enough. Demand accountability NOW! Power to the People!:bounce:

3. This is important.
Right now, as I write this, there are republicans who are very worried, and who are calling out their troops to confuse the public by inserting misinformation and pure bullshit into the discussion.

The fact that the republicans are this anxious, and working this hard to distract the attention from the truth, should indicate how important this is -- and how well it is going for our side.

Each time you see a republican saying <1> Wilson lied about ____; <2> Plame sent Wilson; <3> Wilson said Cheney sent him; <4> Rove is not a target; <5> Rove is the victim here (yes, Sean Hannity said that tonight!); <6> there is a debate if Iraq really bought yellow cake or not; or <7> Wilson was unqualified for the mission, recognize these as republican "talking points." They are of the same basic value as a steaming pile of feces on the sidewalk of life. Walk around them. Ignore them. Don't argue with feces.

These questions only distract from the serious and important discussion. They are of no value. If anyone has a sincere question about them, the answers can be easily found on numerous DU threads, or in Wilson's book.

In dispute resolution, one important point that every therapist tries to teach people is to keep focused on the important issue being discussed. If one person keeps bringing up nonsense, it is important for the rational person to say, "That has nothing to do with this discussion." Or just ignore it. Stay focused on the issue at hand. And the most important thing is that this administration not only exposed Plame, but is coordinating an effort to cover it up. Those who insist on asking the seven questions listed above are, consciously or not, helping to confuse the issues, which aides the cover-up.

4. Some good retorts.

I hope the debaters pick up on two things you said:

If Rove thought he was performing a service, who else was in on it?

If Rove thought he was performing a service why did he lie about doing it?

These will not be easy questions for the "talking pointers." In fact it just deepens the conspiracy and brings their motives into question.

Good stuff.

5. Remind them that we are a nation of laws.
And all true Americans want justice.
