Too bad he didn't die for it.

1. Now Now
Let's not be like the Clinton bashers who won't move on. Thurmond is dead and buried, let's leave it that way.

4. Combat jump

I hope that every veteran that visits this site tells you their feelings about your bullshit. To denigrate anyone that volunteered for the most dangerous duties in any war is petty beyond belief. I didn't care for the man but what he did in WW II was more than just honorable, it was heroic. How many jumps you got Sephirstein?

6. Oh HORSESHIT
Serving in WWII doesn't excuse the fact that his ENTIRE political career was built on the blood of African Americans. Every person who was lynched during the Civil Rights struggle has Strom Thurmond and other racist pieces of shit like him to thank for their untimely deaths.

Please do NOT try and make anyone here feel sorry about hating Strom Thurmond. Nothing he did in his life excuses the deaths and violence he fostered.

10. Thurmond

I said nothing about his being in WWII excusing a friggin thing he did while in office. I was just trying to point out that is more of the type thing I'd expect to see written on the Freeper site about Kerrey. I repeat, his service in WWII was not only honorable but heroic. If you or Sephirstein have volunteered for duty as, or more, dangerous, please tell us your stories.

14. Cut the shit, please
So I'm not allowed to express my disgust with Thurmond's lifelong fostering of hatred, bigotry, and violence because I've never served in the army?

Take your bullshit patriotism elsewhere. The fact that I've never served doesn't change the fact that Strom Thurmond was a piece of shit, and no amount of your bullshit rhetoric about him "serving heroically" changes that, nor does it take away my right to call him a hateful piece of shit, and say that I'm glad he's dead.

Stop trying to change the subject.

26. You're "pissed"

Now I'm really scared. Possibly you could point out one (1) statement I've made defending anything he did since WWII. I said he performed honorable and heroic duty in that war, which he did.

28. Why should you be scared?
Why do you keep acting like I'm making idle threats or acting macho? I'm not, nor would I ever do such a thing. You keep making personal attacks because you can't handle the fact that someone rightfully hates Strom Thurmond, so you're making it about his military service. I don't care if he delivered the baby Jesus, he was still a horrible opportunistic whore who profited from racial violence and murder.

8. I will not CHILL
Anyone who thinks that Strom Thurmond deserves ANY sort of kind words said about him is a god damn moron, plain and simple. This man never did anything to redeem himself after spending decades fostering racial hatred and violence. He was scum, no more, no less.

9. Actually, I think we discovered
That he went in on a glider (no easier -- instead of coming down atop trees with a chute, you just kinda go through them in a glider).
The guy was, I think, 42 years old when he did this. Yes, Thurmond was a racist (I leave it to others to speculate whether or not he ever "reformed" in any meaningful way). But he was also a brave soldier.
John
Hell, I was a teletypist in the Signal Corps at 17 and that was all the Armying I could handle.

12. Glider

I think if you talk to any Airborne troops they'll tell you they would a Helluva lot rather jump than go in on a glider. The gliders were much more dangerous.

11. He fought for his country back when he was a Democrat
He sold everyone out to big buisness (IMHO, this was the *real* reason the Civil War was fought, slavery was secondary) to further his hatred of other ethnicities. As far as I'm concerned his serving in WWII was the last great thing he did.

16. By The Way
the Freepers are slamming Wes Clark, comparing him to Dr. Strangelove and shit.

Wasn't Dr. Strangelove's character based on Curtis LeMay , a notorious right winger.

Clark's no right winger.... More projection from the knuckle scrapers

22. If he were still a Democrat, he wouldn't have been a segregationist
There's nothing stupid about it: If Strom Thurmond had died in WWII, he wouldn't have gone on to profit off fostering racial hatred. He is responsible for the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands of black people who were lynched by people who felt legitamized by Thurmond's political opportunism.

Fuck him, and fuck anyone who defends him.

25. Senator Fullbright was a Republican? It is awfully childish to
celebrate anyone's death for political reasons. I hope you do
not die a slow painful death, giving you time to consider
statements you have made about the death of others.
