A marine from Iraq running for Congress??
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 07:12 PM by FreedomAngel82
I found out about this from DemBloggers. Wow! Now that'll be interesting race to see! It's on the main page with "Inside Politics". If you're wondering the guy is a democrat and his website is http://hackettforcongress.com/
I also wanted to mention he's from Southern Ohio.

3. Looks worth checking into.
"I'll answer this very clearly. I believe that going to Iraq was a misuse of the American military," he said. "We are not nation builders and that's what we are doing over there. But, we are there now, we've got to fix the situation."

A veteran who's against (at least some of our) Iraq policy would be an excellent choice to shake things up.

to descredit someone who had actually been there too which is good! The report is a very good one and showcases him pretty well. At the end they show a guy who voted for Bush in the election but in the interview he said that it appears they're doing a "play as you go" type of thing and that's not good to have and the guy was told he had a republican convert who said he voted republican last time but this time was voting democratic. :D And this is in a very conservative area in Ohio. :D I hope Dean can help this guy!

This is so great. Those who've been there, and can't be accused by RW pundits of "whining" and being fillintheblanks about U.S. policy need to bring the fight to the American people.

Everyone needs to see that Democrats come in all shapes and sizes, so to speak, are not afrid to fight in just wars and are willing to wrest power from the lunatic fringe who've taken over.

12. None, did you miss my sarcasm?
I was just foretelling what the FREEPTARDs are going to do (if Kerry or McCain were any examples of what the repugs will do to a War Hero running for office)

5. I'm keeping up on this guy.
Looks like a great cross between liberal-conservative. Has progressive policies and cares for fellow soldiers. Sounds like a hell of a lot better alternative than that snake Blackwell!

I hope those fradulent phonies get pulled down....We just need to legislate real election reform especially in Ohio.

I hope he just keeps campagining and being himself and stay true to his policies and all that. Iraq is definitley going to be a big play in the midterms. Support is going down, down, down which is good for us. Hopefully he'll make it!

He's running against Fitzpatrick, who is a first termer and way too conservative for the District.

17. I Saw This Yesterday...Seems No One Was Interested...
I put up this thread:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=3977170&mesg_id=3977170

this morning. It dropped like a rock...too many people laughing about last night's "speech". But I wanted more info, too...what the campaign needs. Obviously cash (and my checkbook is open), but also with voluteers and other support from Democrats outside of the district.

Here's a great chance to pick up a seat...in a Repugnican area. It's a seat that Repugnicans are split over...opening the door for Mr. Hackett.

Also, taking this seat would send a very chilling message not just to this regime but to the corporate media.

Let's make Paul Hackett's cause our cause and start turning things around.

Also try GDPolitics--GD is a harsh forum sometimes. Hackett needs some TLC!!

22. Not to put a damper on his chances of winning, but...
he is running in one of the redder districts in the state of Ohio. He will have an uphill battle, Semper Fi or not. What they threw at John Kerry last year expect much the same out of Ohio's second district race, namely God, Gays and Guns. This seat has been GOP at least since the sixties. Hackett might pull it off. He comes across like an intellegent man and maybe he will learn from Kerry's run last year. Hopefully the bushco sinking ship may help.

In the Republican primary it was almost comical. They were falling over each other trying to prove how much of a bush poodle they could be. Bob McEwen's final commercial was half Ronald Reagan and half dubya kissing up. In the end Jean Schmidt was the must pallattable of the candidates (although politically I'm about 179 degrees from her).

So it's the ex-marine against a woman that looks like a librarian or school marm stereotype.
