Here's the Tuesday speech catch-phrase...
"Iraq's first elected President in 5,000 years"

Rumsfeld just spouted this on Meet the Press. It's too cutesy to have been thought up on the fly, and captures that "democracy is taking hold" message the administration had been hanging the war on lately.

4. Implying that a 200+ year-old democracy has the right to change
ancient world politics. Implying that the by-God United States of America knows what is best for every corner of the earth -- and that the USA has the right to impose that knowledge by use of war.

What an asshole.

6. Good catch...I think that the new buzz word will be optimism
The worse things get, the more determined this neo thug crowd is to paint it as a wonderful war that only Pessimists would call disastrous.

17. It's also the first time in HISTORY a Republican Controlled Administration
chose "democracy" over "tyranny". The Reagan administration put Saddam in power in the first place (and they also gave power and resources to OBL in Afghanistan to fight the USSR).

Though, I doubt very seriously if what is going on in Iraq can be called a democracy... it's viewed by the people of Iraq as more of a puppet gov't and if the U.S. pulled out, it would disintegrate. True democracies don't disintegrate.

20. "We'll leave Iraq as soon as we can, but not a minute too early"
or whatever the wording of that bullshit non-answer is. Also, dark hints about what the insurgents will do if a timetable is announced. "They'll just wait us out," smirky will say, as though that's some big change from the current state of affairs.
