How do you think the world is going to end?
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 01:35 AM by BMG
I love this topic; on another message board I post on; I remember writing a good deal on it. Its something to think about, because in our day and age, its more likely than ever. I can explain why. Both topics have the same idea to it; I think the main causes will be dependence of Oil, and Nuclear Warfare over the battle of Ideologies/Religions.

Oil Peak/and Oil and Overpopulation, take your pick:
I am sure by now that many of you have heard of the "Peak Oil" theory which states that Oil Prices are going to hit a certain point, then keep climbing along with the demand as whats left begins to dwindle and the population begins to increase. And that the population in 20 years is only going to push these prices higher and higher. This may not nessissarily be the only problem however.

Lets just say we DID have enough oil to last for another 100 years, or more. The issue that would now face us pumping out all the Natural Gas and Oil for 11 BILLION people. Now 11 billion is the suspected population in roughly 25-35 years (2050 is the predicted time, but I think we will hit it sooner), that isnt far away. We simply would not be able to do it quick enough, no matter where or how. We would simply need another energy source, but it isnt that simple. Lets take fusion, Cold Fusion. Harnesing the power of a star to create almost limitless energy. In theory I have been told this is possible, however in current Laboratory conditions, only to a very minute level, hardly anything has been done and probably will be done, its just to complex to create a fucking star. Keep in mind, manipulating nature is one thing, but creating it is an entirely different aspect. I suspect future presidential administrations will try using mainly nuclear power for a while, but it wont last.

Soon China is going to make moves on our Oil interests to meet their demands, and they have too. Part of their economic expansion plan is to move a huge percentage of its population into urban areas for Big Business, they have to keep it moving somehow, Oil is the answer. Soon India will follow, and I think by the time it gets there, the shit will have already started to hit the fan. It will be a literal battle over the reserves, even if there is enough oil left for a long time; we will be battling other countries to pump it out quick enough to meet the demands of the population.

Lets talk other energy sources; we would burn a huge amount of oil trying to find it, and by the time we got there, our economy, or any other nations as far as Oil goes, would be shot to hell; how are we going to give the demand citizens need and at the same time use a ton to go on some wild goose chase we are not even sure would work, then afterwards, mass produce whatever it is and then impliment it into a society that has been dependent on oil for over a century. It would be a huge waste of money and would kill us economically because of this reason.

The only viable and readily avalible solution would be to kill about 2/3 of the population of earth, then start looking for another fuel alternative, the simple fact is; there are too many fucking people to start now.

Now lets talk about reserves; and what we have left. Many companies have inflated numbers, its just a simple fact and it makes buyers more interested, lets take Shell for example. Recently shell admitted that it only had half of what it said it did; thanks shell, all of us our paying for that "slip up" at the gas pump currently, asswipes.

Does anyone else find it sad that after 500 million years of life on earth, after all this evolution, natural selection that it has taken to mold life into what it is today, is about to be thrown away. All this history, every last bit of knowledge the human race has gathered, our memories as a whole are going to suffer one giant collaspe, a death. Everything that we have ever known, or ever will know is going to be taken from us. For what? For a precious liquid that makes our life more comfortable, that gives us happiness? Earth having life itself is a miracle, and a person having an individual realization of their "self"; them being here is in itself a whole separate lottery, the odds are just staggaring that we have what we have and we are going to throw it all away. Throw in the chemical equation here to create life, the fact that the sun is perfectly aligned with the earth to create life; and we are eventually going to fuck everything up over something that we feel gives us a higher quality of living.

The human race is a fucking failure, and a sad excuse of life; we dont deserve it because we dont apprieciate it, and we think we understand its value, when we clearly dont. A dogmatic speicies who thought they knew everything ruled for 35000 years, and now, soon, nothing will be left of it. Because if you think that countries are going to not go to war over oil when it starts running out; you are plain mistaking. It has already begun, the downward spiral towards our ultimate downfall. Even if ensuing oil-wars do not end the human-race, it will damage it to a point that will make life not worth living anymore. And when there is nothing left of us, just ashes left behind on our cold dark and dead world, nothing will remember us as our remains fade with time forever and ever, lifeless never to experience such a miracle again.

Now, onto the next topic: Nuclear War, and the Battle of the Ideologies and Religion, mixing this and an oil crisis together only spells trouble:

Does anyone else find it somewhat ironic and funny Religion and Nuclear Weapons, some of the very things we rely on for security and comfort may lead us to destroy ourselves?

I think that is just the case, Nuclear Weapons will not retain their status as a Detterent Foce anymore, and Religion is spiraling out of control while all of this is happening, the very fundemental belief humanity started out with, God, may lead us to destroy ourselves.

One thing I have noticed about war is that it starts with 2 basic reasons: Greed/Desire or Battle between the Idealogies/Religions. With thousands of countries in the world today, and soon to be at least a dozen nuclear powers, are we on the verge of our own destruction? I think from what Anthropology has taught me, the more specialized a species becomes, the greater risk it runs for extinction, once it defeats all the niches in its habitat; it will inevitably be its own undoing.

Religion and me have never gotten along: Here is why; I have noticed that most religous thinkers in our society today have adapted to "one-sided thinking", they can only see what their religion tells them, they rely on it for saftey, for security, and for morality. This influences the choices they make subconsiuelssly (massive spelling error). If in Bush's case, is in charge of one of the largest, if not the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons on the planet; and he claims that he "speaks to god". This sort of thinking is irrational and certainly not objective, to be a good leader, you need to think outside the box, not inside the box like everyone else. To not conform to an institution, religous or political, is to examine ones life in ways they never could have seen possible. Things are more clear and the person typically thinks more rationally. We think we has a species have "freewill" but do we? Does our enviroment detirmine what course our life will take, what religion or political spectrum we choose to side with? If there are choices we are unaware of and we are only given the ability to choose the choices laid before us, than do we really have freewill at all? Religion in a sense takes away from freewill if that is true. If Bush, or any other close-minded leader cannot think rationally, than the amount of power this man has is truley dangerous to all mankind.

The Ladder Theory; at least from what I have learned, states that every state should know its place on the ladder we call society, and that if any state tries to climb that ladder, instability occurs. There are so many handles on this "ladder" today, that instability is constant. Many countries have began to climb this "ladder" namley China and India, economically at least. China has began to move citizens out of rural areas and into the urban areas to help big business, currently, China houses 65% of its population in urban areas, and is expected to have that percentage climb by 2020 to as high as 90%. This industrial economic boom, in a rationalist thinking society will create conflict. How though? The United States's only concern currently is staying top dog.

Back onto religion. Religion is your enemy (more specifically your beliefs and desires); the people who blindly kill in its name, who change lives and countries in the name of their God. This is our downfall, our apocolaypse. I always found it funny the Bible Predicts Armageddon, when in fact, its bound to be one of the causes of it. So in the end, man really invented god as a means to make up for his own imperfections, for comfort, and security, but its only caused harm for the mostpart. Communism, Democracy, its all just another way to live life. I myself, if I had the choice, would not conform to any society, because in the back of my head I will always wonder, "Was it really the best way to live my life, could I have done better?" Besides, like religion, ideologies cause wars.

The very commidities we hoarde, will eventually run out of, our belief structure will split (the worlds major religions), causing a perpetual war that will not end (because of the populations that inhabit these conflicting religions), until the world does. We look to God? For what? God is one of the main reasons mankind exists in turmoil. Yet we still look to him for security and comfort? I dont think of God as a supernatural being that controls everything and wants me to act good, that leads to careless thinking. I think of God as everything that works around us, everything we cannot understand, the Cosmos, nature, natural selection; why everything works with a cause. In my opinion, that is God.

Nuclear Weapons are the Bush Administrations Choice of weaponry, they just adpoted a new resolution allowing Nuclear Preemtive Strike capabilities, that means we nuke first and ask questions later. With everything I have just said in the previous paragraphs this is a huge problem. Religious and Ideology wars continue to rage in todays world, and they are going to continue to get worse as resources dwindle, yet we hang onto them so valiantly? Why? For Security? For protection? Are we so blind we cannot see these very things could lead to our extinction. Our own 6 senses, our conciousness and our freedom to believe are our downfall; the very things we grasp onto so tightly as to better our lives.

This is the world you are leaving for your children, even if you are not at fault, we all have a part in it. And my generation. As a 19 year old college student, I fear for my future not because of who is elected into office, but because of human nature.

You dont have to write as much as I did by any means, I always find myself writing too much, but share your thoughts. Ive posted this too many times on too many boards, haha.
