House cuts funding for labor, rural health care, low-income schools
Edited on Fri Jun-24-05 07:21 PM by Bluebear
WASHINGTON - Funding for job training, rural health care, low-income schools and help for people lacking health insurance would face big cuts under a bill passed Friday by the House.

Democrats said the overall bill falls far short of what's needed for education, health research, help for the poor and many other programs.

"This bill just doesn't measure up to our national obligations," said Rep. David Obey of Wisconsin, top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee.

Republicans said they had done they best they could under President Bush's tight budget for domestic programs.

1. I wish these cuts could be targeted only to those who voted for Bush
because they deserve to suffer the consequences for their actions. I have become rather cold-hearted since the election. But it does not work that way.

2. Oil cos profits up by huge amounts... hundreds of billions being
poured into Iraq, war profiteering going along swimmingly, private contractors raping the taxpayer, and we get the short end once again.... pity.

3. Actually they really didn't reduce funding. They just combined everything
into the defense budget. If you want job training - enlist. If you want health insurance and schools for you kids - enlist. Poor? Hehe, get a job by enlisting. They pay you to train you! Beat the rush before the draft.
