National Review Online calls for attack on Paul Krugman
http://www.nationalreview.com/nrof_luskin/truthsquad090803.asp

Despite this inexplicable omission, America's most dangerous liberal pundit is in full book-promo mode. He's dropped his teaching duties at Princeton for the quarter. His personal website lists 14 speaking engagements around the country, with more to come (a helpful reader suggested that coconut cream pie works best for such occasions).

Well, it looks like NRO is suggesting someone in line to see Paul Krugman throw something in his face.

This is kind of low...if some college Republican group or college Republican magazine suggested this it would be one thing...a suggestion of an immature prank from immature people...but this is low, sleazy, and threatening, to be coming from the National Review. They're really crawling in the gutter here.

1. oooh!
Does this have anything to do with Al Franken's attempt to challenge Lowry to a duel? Is this the girly-boy's comeback for that?

27. But it's not just ANY form of dissent...
...it's intelligent dissent which clearly points out how their favored positions depart from reality (and honesty).

3. They are desperate.
I have great respect for Mr. Krugman he's been a voice of sanity and truth. It must not be easy for him to put up with the hate mail and other threats. We can add him to our list of Patriots.

5. The Great Unravelling - of all civil discourse.
Krugman's new book is supremely patriotic and truthful.

The NRO is not.

'Nuff said.

you realize just what we are up against.

An arrogant ignorance that cannot be dented by mere fact. A willingness to say and do anything to discredit an opponent.

11. Isn't this the same rag that wrote a piece on Chelsea Clinton
that she was evil because she had 'Clinton genes'. There was a huge outcry over that but, they never published an apology.

Screw them! I bought Paul's book, I love the man.

7. Outrageous and stupid
I think if the tables were turned, if this was a liberal publication suggesting throwing pies at a conservative author, they would be calling it a threat and calling the FBI! Or perhaps another wholly without merit lawsuit.

10. Good for the goose...... We need to go after THEM with all the
power we've got. Wherever, whenever. Two can play this game. They go after Paul, we go after Coulter or O'Reilly. Pie for pie, punch for punch. We cannot let these fascist bastards intimidate us. Paul has already had death threats, and a lot of other "McCarthy" type crap. We need to protect our patriots, buy being just as tough as they are, and willing to fight back!!

:grr:

12. FYI - I found this link to the article about Chelsea
The National Review

Be Very Afraid - Clinton’s legacy.

Mr. Derbyshire is also an NR contributing editor
February 15, 2001 10:10 a.m.

A specter is haunting America — the specter of Clintonism. Yes, the man is gone, off to a lifetime of golfing at all-white clubs, biting his lip in the pulpits of black churches while the hallelujahs soar, goosing waitresses, slithering in and out of shady business deals, being collared by showbiz bores at Barbra Streisand's parties, and defending himself in court. And yes, his lady has no future beyond the U.S. Senate. The people of New York, trapped in their little Stalinist time-warp, still fretting about why that nice Mr. Adlai Stevenson didn't get in in '52 (my explanation: WE NEED ADLAI BADLY! was the worst campaign slogan ever) will probably go on voting for her until, like Gagoola the hag in King Solomon's Mines, "She has lived so long that none can remember when she was not old, and always she it is who has trained the witch hunters, and made the land evil in the sight of the heavens above." But given her far-left paper trail and her amazing capacity to make people detest her where'er she treads, Hillary's maxed out: She has no real future.

Yet still the presence of that specter can be felt, an icy wind blowing to us from the unseeable future, disturbing our sleep, arresting us in the midst of our daily tasks, chilling and warning us. Bill and Hill are history, but Clintonism may yet rise again, like Glenn Close from that bathtub. For, ladies and gentlemen, the tworch has been paaahssed to a noooh genewation of Clintons. On February 27th, Chelsea Clinton will turn 21.

At this point I had better make a confession. It's a bad one, I know it. It is low, contemptible and — yes! — mean-spirited. It may very well place me beyond the pale of civilized society. I don't care. Truth will out, I will be heard. Brace yourself: I hate Chelsea Clinton.

more if you can stand it:

15. I just wrote Luskin and got this reply
Don,

In your Sept. 8 column you sure seem awfully caught up with Paul Krugman's mannerisms (pause, deep breath, labial sound). Is this physical fascination with the man a personal issue or is it intended to compensate for your lack of substance in criticizing the man's integrity?

It is beyond hilarious to me to see formerly cocksure Republicans
thrashing wildly about in the throes of their own misguided policy. As
Iraq degenerates into a killing field and the economy sends the
President's approval into a tailspin, they are adopting their fearless
leader's propensity for launching juvenile attacks when threatened.

Anything but admit you're wrong.

Don replies:

No, the physical descriptions are intended to help the reader see that this man only seems great an invincible hiding behind the skirts of the New York Times. Outside that, he's just a crank.

Har, har. That Don is all substance, isn't he?

20. Shades of Ann Coulter
No, the physical descriptions are intended to help the reader see that this man only seems great an invincible hiding behind the skirts of the New York Times.

What was that spew that Coulter uttered? Something about wanting to have a few liberals executed just to demonstrate that they can be killed? Not to alledge that Luskin would want to see Krugman killed, but the ideology is eerily similar.

Outside that, he's just a crank.

Can you say 'libel?'

Someone should email all this to Krugman.

17. Krugman is prophetic
Notice the dollar going into a free-fall the other day. Almost exactly what he predicted.

Neo-cons just don't want the truth to be heard because they would be banished from society if it ever came out.

21. Let's not go overboard
An informed first-year economics student could tell you that the fundamentals are in favor of a much weaker dollar. Due to trade deficit, the supply of dollars exceeds demand and, in an unrestrained market, the price of dollars declines.

Krugman is many things but a prophet is not one of them.

22. Alot of it
was fueled by comments being interpreted as the administration backing off the strong dollar policy.

Plus by looking at Bush's actions, they are looking for just any reason to abandon the dollar because with our deficit, it appears we can't get our financial house in order.

18. I always knew politics was dirty but this dirty I never
expected. Correct me if I'm wrong but, many of these so called magazines would not have the money to print this trash if they weren't funded by nutballs like Murdock and Mellon Scaife.

Four years ago I had never heard of any of these characters. How the hell do they live with themselves?
