Is anyone else outraged by the GE coal commercials?
I apologize if this has been raised before, but I saw this ad last night and almost threw a perfectly good Scotch at my TV. The spot glamorizes the coal industry by having beautiful hard bodied actors of both sexes act as if they are digging coal. Bare chested men and bare midriffed women burlesque what is one of the dirtiest and most dangerous occupations in history. The message concocted by the GE "Emagineers" is that coal is clean and easily obtained. It is, of course, a complete lie on both counts. GE has no soul nor any shame.I cringe for coal miners and their families if they are unfortunate enough to see this travesty.

Probably the stupidest commercial I've ever seen
I'm sure all the ignorant bastards out there are saying "I need to get me some of that coal!"

Coal will never be a clean energy no matter what GE or Bush say.

2. I haven't seen that one
But I despise the Exxon-Mobile commercial with the computer animation of the baby elephant dancing in the rain forest. :puke: :grr:

3. I haven't seen it, but that's just sick.
We had a local guy killed in a mining accident here a couple of weeks ago. The roof he was trying to reinforce caved in on him, two miles down into the mine. Betcha THAT was pretty glamorous.

9. As mad as I was at the thought of "clean coal" what really
turned my stomach was the blithe disregard for the lives of coal miners.

4. Have you seen the dancing elephant?
It is a cute commercial but what are they preparing us for? Why would they spend so much money on this PR campaign now? Also they have the one where the animals are stacked up to clouds. They spent a lot of money on these commercials.

8. The dancing elephant probably symbolizes
the Republican Party trampling on what's left of our pure environments.

7. I've managed to miss that one, but here in Houston we
have to suffer through the "Halliburton is wonderful, and I'm proud to work there" bullsh!t commercials. :puke: :puke: :puke:

on sooo many levels.

The mocking of the hard and dangerous work real coal minors do is rank.

The claim that coal is "clean" and "beautiful" is insulting.

The T&A factor is appalling to me as a feminist.

I just about gag every time I see that commercial.
