Among Americans registered to vote, 45% approve of the way Bush is handling his job as president and 51% disapprove. As for Bush's handling of the economy, 45% of registered voters approve and 53% disapprove.

His economic ratings are in the 30s (in other polls, not this one), and his Iraq ratings are still dropping. Since some Repukes are beginning to be angry at him, I don't believe he has hit rock bottom. In this poll his rating among Repukes is 74 percent; that's not good at all.

9. Remember, there are LOTS of swing voters

who voted for him who were on the cusp of voting for Gore. A lot of original Bush voters must have voted for Clinton also for instance or at least were part of the 65%-70% that had high opinions of him. I think you overestimate the Chimps hardcore, unswayable base. I would say it's probably no higher than 35%.
