But we gotta be there and fight in order to do it. And believe me, we are going to fight back. I don't care if Dick Cheney likes my mother or not. We are going to fight back," Dean said to cheers and applause. "I think it's great that Dick Cheney went after me, to be honest. At least they notice there's a Democratic Party that's not going to put up with this stuff any more. So there's a lot we're gonna do."

2. Dean is a partisanmonger
He will do anything to demonize the opponent's party, but he won't actually stand up for the People and against the Establishment when it comes right down to the line.

How rich is he? How many corporations foot his bill?

He isn't anywhere close to a real populist -- he's another coward who couldn't even handle criticism of Israel.

Giving this man more support will bring down true progressives.

17. You speak the truth
His record as governor speaks for itself - heavily corporatized support and voting record.

23. How rich is Dean? Well, here's a picture of his house

According to the caption at the above link, it's worth $221,300. Pretty humble, I'd say.

4. Republican attacks reveal their WEAK places.
Dean triggers talk about things Republicans don't want talked about. He's supposed to be polite and shut up, but he's too honest, and he wants to see people empowered. That isn't going to happen if the people are told in effect, by their role models, "Shut up. Above all, Be nice. Don't talk about things that people find uncomfortable."

All discussions of definitions and roles, not matter how the discussion goes, work to OUR BENEFIT, because that's stuff Rove doesn't want the Public thinking about.

16. what you said!
I agree. Being nice won't get 'er done. We need a no holds barred tactic, nut kicking, eye-gauging fighter, not someone who's afraid of a fight. GO DEAN!

6. It was a non-sequitir
Cheney said Dean was liked only by his mother, and Dean shoots back "I don't care if he likes my mother". :wtf:

Not much of a comeback if it doesn't make sense.

8. I believe that is the point....
Republicans do it all the time, and count on the listener to have missed or forgot the original comment.

They are doing this now to Durbin. They do it all the time.

15. So he is lowering himself to their level?
"Republicans do it all the time" isn't an argument I would care to win anyone over with. Two wrongs do not make a right.

you don't bring a knife to a gunfight. They need a taste of their own medicine. It's sort of a live by the sword deal. The only thing that will work to get them out of power is to use their own style against them.

The fundies have to be led back to the REAL Jesus, and shown how EVIL the Repukes are.

The Dems need some catchphrases that can be repeated over an over, till most people believe it, just like Dickless going around mentioning Saddam and WMDs in the same breath till it stuck in everyone's head.

21. Not at all! That is the beauty of it!
You made the linkage that he was responding to Cheney's quote. Howard made no such linkage at all! He just made the statement that he doesn't care if Cheney likes his (Howard's) mother. He didn't have to stretch the truth one bit.

24. That's exactly what he's doing. He's bouncing their shit back into
their faces. They don't care if they twist or warp what you say, get it wrong or mischaracterize it; Dean is mimmicing the way they respond to us.

11. If you look at the discussion honestly
it was a pretty weak critisism by Cheney and a non-sensical answer by Dean. I suggest we move on.....

14. Dean is throwing red meat at the base
Which is fine, but it really doesn't change anything. His followers may get stirred up, and donate more, but he is doing nothing to present to others on WHY they should vote Democratic. He isn't reaching the voters we need to reach.

Preaching to the choir isn't doing much to reform ANYTHING.

So I don't fall into the "Dean should shut up" camp, and I don't fall into the "Dean speaks for me" camp. He really isn't making a difference, other than cosmetic, with red-meat rhetoric.

18. Oh, please. Stop supporting Dean just because he attacks Republicans
He doesn't have a progressive agenda, his overall agenda is still incredibly right-leaning.

Just because he hurls childish insults at the opposition doesn't make him the voice for peace, justice, and progress that all of us want. He's not even close.

26. Good quote from the article:
Dean, in Boston on Monday for a fundraiser, told fellow Democrats that Republicans want a smaller government, but "their government is just big enough to fit inside Terri Schiavo's bed in the nursing home. We can do better than that."
