James Woosley is an ass.
I am watching the Hardball repeat. When are they going to give up on "it's about the British usage of the word fixed". Why don't these so called journalists just ask a Brit what fixed means to them.

I can't believe he just trotted out that lame excuse again.

12. Let's say for a minute the memo author meant in different way.
Let's assume he meant fixed to mean arranged.

Which sentence makes more sense?

"The facts and intelligence are being arranged around the policy" or

"The policy is being arranged around the facts and intelligence" ?

One would hope the policy of making war would be arranged around relevant facts and Intel.

It doesn't make sense to arrange facts and Intel around a policy, unless that policy is predetermined no matter what and ONLY facts and intel that support the policy are being used.

3. As someone in another thread said ...
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 10:54 PM by BattyDem

The DSM story was reported by a BRITISH journalist in a BRITISH newspaper ... so obviously they must know what the word "fixed" means in the UK.

6. I think I may have said that in another thread : ) It just boggles
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:03 PM by BlueStateGirl
my mind that people like Woosley & co. throw that out there. And it's even more mind boggling that the MSN never questions it.

And, evidently, either does a large segment of the population.

13. Here's what that Brirish journalist had to say on the meaning of "fixed"

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion ...

Michael Smith: There are number of people asking about fixed and its meaning. This is a real joke. I do not know anyone in the UK who took it to mean anything other than fixed as in fixed a race, fixed an election, fixed the intelligence. If you fix something, you make it the way you want it. The intelligence was fixed and as for the reports that said this was one British official. Pleeeaaassee! This was the head of MI6. How much authority do you want the man to have? He has just been to Washington, he has just talked to George Tenet. He said the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. That translates in clearer terms as the intelligence was being cooked to match what the administration wanted it to say to justify invading Iraq. Fixed means the same here as it does there. More leaks? I do hope so and the more Blair and Bush lie to try to get themselves off the hook the more likely it is that we will get more leaks.

And as a Brit, I can myself assure you that fixed means exactly what Smith says it means. Dey cooked da books.

5. Well gee, according to my OED;
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:03 PM by LynnTheDem
There's no mystery about what the British meaning of the verb "fixed around" means.

Not "fix"; "FIXED AROUND".

Perhaps James should purchase an OED.

10. It just shows the real contempt they have for the American people.
Edited on Mon Jun-20-05 11:52 PM by BlueStateGirl
It's like they didn't even try to come up with a better excuse.

"Don't worry Dick, the American people are stupid. If we tell 'em fixed means something different in England, they'll believe us."

I am starting to think those rumors I heard in High School about our water supply being fluoridated so we would be easier to control are true.

18. I once saw him questioned about what Junior thought of various leaders
It was on CNN about three years ago, and it was disgustingly telling of both his and Smirky's attitudes. The questioner ticked off names of various world leaders like Chirac and Putin, and Woolsey gave short answers to what Bush thought of the individual. When the questioner said "Kofi Annan", Woolsey cocked his head down and partially covered his mouth with his hand, and with a nasty little smile mumbled "third world".

That was the face of privilege, monarchy and the self-proclaimed right to dismiss others as inferiors. Folks without money? Fuck 'em.

It was truly shocking that an ex-head of the CIA would have the political idiocy to say something like that, and depressing that the current mob has so cheapened our sensibilities that such ugliness seemed cute to the man.
