2. Hasn't Milbank Done Some Decent Reporting In The Past? WTF Happened?
I seem to remember reading some decent pieces from Milbank. It's like he (she?) all of a sudden turned rabid. I mean that piece is as vicious a hit piece disguised as news as I've seen in the Post.

43. I'll tell you why but you give me the link. I love bashing the Post.
I saw Milbank interviewed by Keith about the Jeff Gannon affair. He looked dyspeptic in general, Milbank, but when Kieth asked him how Gannon could have hung around without the WH Press Corp knowing who he was or his scamp, Milbank's face did a Dorian Gray fast forward, I thought skin was going to start dripping off his face. He was really rattled. Well, he didn't say any words that gave things away, but he sure looked "guilty." I think he's been "turned" and he's now on the payroll.

Besides, he's a fucking wimp like the rest of the spoiled brat, blow dried, intellectually shallow, lazy, poorly trained, mealy mouthed, solipsistic, pseudo-intellectual, parasitic, cast of "reporters" at the Washington Post and NYT. At least the Times has Krugman and Wolcott. The Post has nobody, nothing, zip, nada.

7. Look, everyone, be FIRM but don't come off like a raving lunatic
You'll just get your email deleted as soon as it becomes apparent that you're going off on him.

MUCH BETTER to be polite and reasonable enough that it gets read. Please. Otherwise you're wasting your time, or at best just venting your spleen (and in a vaccum since, I'm tellin' ya, it won't get read).

Here's what Ray McGovern wrote him:

Ray McGovern to Dana Milbank

Dear Dana,

What's happened to you? You were often quite good when you were on the Post's White House beat...perceptive—occasionally even courageous—especially in exposing White House dishonesty. Is that why you were taken off that beat and assigned yesterday to trivialize the historic proceedings in the Capitol basement and Congressman Conyers' courage in convening them?

"C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime's record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action."

16. Here is what I wrote
First off, let me say, you sir, need to get out more. America is filled with personal stories of Americans who are barely able to hang onto their lives. People are suffering in this country, alot of people and you can't see it in your little cubicle filled with Republican slanted hate. The polls are showing the despair and the anger of what they feel is happening to this country and with this war and to journalist who have sold out.

If you feel as strongly as you do for the Republicans, may I suggest your local recruiter, who can help you serve the administration's need for more warm bodies to blow up.... Before you label me as a liberal, please first label me as a Mother Of a Son who is in Afghanistan. This is personal to me. I need to know if we had honor in this war or not. These boys deserve the truth, the country deserves the truth and we shall keep fighting till we expose the truth regardless of writers like you who try to push their opinion off as news. You honestly should be ashamed of yourself.

America needs Americans, not Republicans, not Democrats, but Americans who are not afraid of the truth. Tell the truth, that is all I ask of you sir, is to tell the truth....

God bless you for standing up. God bless your son and the people with whom he serves. May they all come home soon, too, under their own power, that is. I'm sure you're hearing from a lot of angry readers, raking you over the coals for your mocking story about Rep. Conyers' hearing on the Downing Street Minutes. I also found your "sketch" objectionable, unfair, juvenile, unprofessional--it's difficult to settle on just the right word to describe how appalling it was. Evidently you saw your role as being that of a mocker at worst, a creative writer at best, but certainly not as a journalist.

I wonder, who you were writing this sketch for? Yourself? Your journalist friends? Or were you thinking you were informing anyone who might not have known the event was going on? Maybe you shouldn't bother reporting on the disempowered Democrats in the future if you can't hide your contempt for them from your readers. It's very unseemly to kick the out-of-power when they're down. Makes you look like a toady for the powerful. If you feel you must make fun of the form Democratic dissent takes, you can always amuse your reporter friends via e-mail. But please, spare the rest of us unless you can deal with the substance of the dissent first and foremost.

To: [email protected]

Dear Sir,

I was astonished to read the farce you penned
regarding the Conyers Downing Street Memo hearing.
Perhaps you need to take some remedial journalism
classes; unless of course you are yet another paid
propagandist on the White House payroll. Shame on you
for such shoddy "journalism". Apparently you must
think that lying about receiving oral sex is a far
more grevious crime than lying to engage in an
illegal war that has exacted an enormous toll on both
our blood and treasure, with no staunching the flow in
sight. And that's because of idiotic screeds such as
the one you penned. Have you no decency, sir?

Sincerely,

Mr. Milbanks,

Thank you for your insightful piece on the Downing Street Investigation. Clearly the "long suffering" Democrats have forgotten their place in the pecking order and need to be reminded--particularly since many on the panel are such uppity Blacks. Well done in mocking their make-shift, little hearing and defending the Republicans who relegated them to the basement of the Capital building.

You are doing a true service to your country in concealing the crimes of the president. The Washington Post must be so proud.
