I massacre my young Repuke friends when I tell them to enlist.
Yeah, I've got a few under 40 Repub friends who are full of piss and vinegar about the Iraq war. I let them spout their shit for a while and then I lay a left right combo on their noggin when I say, Military recruitment is down by 50 percent and they need good men and women. SO...if you support this war so much, how come you're not there fighting it? After a ten count, it's over.

Maybe, in case the person isn't really capable of enlisting, make sure to put a post it note on top saying that I am sure that they have someone they love - a friend or family member - who they would like to encourage to enlist.

22. not the same thing...
If she feels the war in Iraq is just and right and important for our freedom and safety, then there is something she can do about it. Add more firepower to a beleaguered force. She believes in the cause, they need people to help - she needs to put her life where her mouth is.

Really DO something to help us bring democracy to a region she believes deserves to be occupied by a U.S. force. She can make sure our $300 billion is being well spent, and report back to you how successful we are over there.

Not the same thing at all.

The military is stretched thin, they need people to fight. If you supported the war, then it is your patriotic duty to shore up our forces when asked.

I don't think the Gay community is worried about the LACK of gay marriages. The issue here is equality, not increasing marriage (straight or gay).

IDIOT.

for persons of color, that she has to change her race??? By her logic (supporting gay marriage=marrying a woman), then supporting the rights of African Americans means she must become one.

The military needs her. I can assure her, none of my lesbian friends do.

11. If RW rich kids do enlist en masse, look out, THE THREAT WILL BE REAL
But like we have always said, the 50+ wars of the U.S. only a couple were responding to a real threat. The rest were for the geo-political aspirations of some group in D.C.

16. Besides the young freepers who have "other priorities" to enlisting
there are the ex-military freepers who support the war but excuse their not re-enlisting why saying they have done their time.

I always tell them they are needed more than the new recruits - they are already trained and fight ready. Their country needs them in this time of war. They owe it to the country to go back in if they support the war. A patriot would want to go. During World War II there were plenty of people who had served in World War I - 20 some years before - that re-upped to help their country beat back the Nazi threat. There were also WWII vets who went back for Korea and Viet Nam. Plenty of vets served more than one tour in Nam even though that was all they were obligated to do. They believed in the war and was brave enough to go back for their country.

So, Bucko, put up or shut up. All flag draped, pseudo patriots need to pack their gear, kiss their family good bye and get moving. Get thee to a recruitment station.

27. We could sure use those that
have retired after twenty years. They are trained, of senior rank and are drawing a pretty good piece of their active duty pay anyhow. No way the military could get more "bang for the buck" than if these guys (and gals) reup.

31. I don't know if they would be useful or not, that is not the point
Just questioning their patriotism by not TRYING to reup is a pretty good way to shut them up about the war. This is pretty effective for the ones who did the four years and done tour. Or used ROTC to pay for college. I'm not knocking the ones who served one or two tours and got out or used it to pay for college - more power to them. I just feel that a real gung-ho military person - who knows what is involved in sending a soldier to war - and chooses to support this senseless, stupid war needs to help out.

I love to see freeper heads explode. How do they argue with that? Out of shape, a patriot would get in shape, health wise - a patriot would offer to do a Iraqi desk job to free up someone else to fight. There are a thousand ways to counter their excuses.

No weight limits, you don't have to be in perfect health, and the pay's way better than our troops are getting. So I say to those "too old/busy/wimpy to enlist" warmongers, "your country still needs you over there driving trucks and handing out bottled water."

some lower class person to fight in their place. The rich did it during the Civil War. Why not now? They could also pay $300 to get out of the draft. If I had $300 in 1863, how much would that be in 2005 dollars? We could call it The Patriot Tax and charge all military-age men whose net worth is more than a set amount.

Disgusting hypocrisy from people who love to spout shit like "our troops are dying so that you can express your freedoms by protesting." Dude, if you really believed that, then you'd be encouraging your own kids, and everyone else's, to enlist, because you BELIEVE in protecting freedom.

Sheltering your own pampered offspring and expecting me to send mine in their place...well, fuck y'all. I don't believe they're over there protecting freedom. I believe they're over there protecting imperialism and cheap oil, and I'm a strong believer in no more blood for oil.

Put YOUR kids where your mouth is.

Wanna really support the troops? The support they need is FIRE support, not another goddam car magnet. Get over there with an M-16 or shut the hell UP.

As for me, I can pity the troops, many of whom never signed up for a shootin' war - they signed up for the National Guard so they could get college money or train in a profession - I may send 'em care packages. But I'm not sending my stepsons. No way, no how. You believe in the mission, send yours. I already have a nephew and two cousins over there, and that's three family members too many. :-(
