Dean: Fox News Is Republican Propaganda Outlet

Responding to comments by Vice President Dick Cheney on a Fox News telecast Sunday morning, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean told a Chicago audience Sunday afternoon, "My view is Fox News is a propaganda outlet for the Republican Party and I don't comment on Fox News." Dean's comments came at the Rainbow-PUSH coalition conference after he was strongly criticized earlier in the week by Democratic strategist David Axelrod, who said that the party was unlikely to lure Republican voters "if the chairman of the Democratic Party is out there gratuitously characterizing all Republicans in a truly nasty way."

Personally, this is the same crap we democrats have been taking from the republicans since Bush stole the White House on Dec 12th, 2000. Republicans have been typecasting us democrats for years and now we're doing it back (smarter & better) and they just whine whine whine. Personally I think all Democrats should just avoid doing Fox News all together. They're an obviously biased news organization that will take the words of the democrats and distort those words into sick lies. Fox News ratings are already dropping down the toilet so if all Democrats just refuse to be on Fox, then the ratings should get even worse

I say keep them explaining themselves.

Never explain, never apologize. It's the one this the Dems could learn from Reagan. God knows the Republicans have.

17. killing me softly with his words ...
I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style.
And so I came to see him to listen for a while.
And there he was this young boy, a stranger to my eyes.

Strumming my pain with his fingers,
Singing my life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song,
Telling my whole life with his words,
Killing me softly with his song ...

He's killing Democrats with this outrageous, crazy stuff. Why can't he be more like Zell Miller, Ed Koch, and Joe Lieberman and say do nothing but praise Republicans and criticize Democrats. If he keeps this up, Democrats are going to not do nearly as well in 2006 as they did in 2004. </sarcasm>

9. Go Doctor!!!
This part continues to outrage me!

"...unlikely to lure Republican voters"

Fuck the Republicans. We don't need to lure them, especially by giving up LABOR and Working Class Issues.
We need to lure Democratic voters who quit going to the polls because the Democratic Party stopped representing them!!!!

ENERGIZE the DEMOCRATIC BASE...the WORKING AMERICAN!!!
Give the Working American someething to vote for and he will go to the polls!!!

Fuck a strategy of "luring republicans!!!"

...are the Reagan Democrats, the Republicans we are seeking to lure. This is one Dean statement I don't have much of a problem with, but we lost these voters way before Clinton and the 1994 elections.

11. Let's REVERSE Axelrod's logic and see if it still applies:
..."Republican strategist David Axelrod, who said that the party was unlikely to lure Democratic voters "if the chairman of the Republican Party is out there gratuitously characterizing all Democrats in a truly nasty way."

You know what? Republicans do that every day to Democrats (characterize them in a truely nasty way). Is that somehow different? Why?

WHY is stating the TRUTH about FOX "News" characterizing Republicans in a nasty way? If the statement is TRUE, (and it is), and it's a NASTY truth, is that DEAN'S fault?

Nope. Not the way I see it.

Note that while 142,070,000 U.S. citizens are registered, 54,936,000 U.S. citizens are not yet registered. I'll bet that 80% of those unregistered voters would vote democratic. So we need to focus on getting everyone registered, that is our potential for victory! The republicans know this, because they do everything in their power to keep knew voters from registering. Some 80% of 54 million non-registered voters is a hell of a lot of potential.

65. I am going to assume you are honest and not a freeper
You say people do not care about fiery language and Dean is distracting voters. If they do not care why is it a distraction? If they wish to hear about the issues then Dean is the man to inform them. It sounds as if you have never heard Dean speak. There is never a time when Dean does not address the issues that concern Democrats. One of those very important issues is contesting the GOP and the myths they put out there as truths. If you think ferreting out the truth is not an important issue than I feel sorry for you. By generating a stir he is more likely to gather a few new listeners just to be part of the excitement. America seems hung up on sensationalism and if that's what it takes to get people to pay attention then so be it. At least he tells the truth in a sensational manner. Watch how the GOP responds. They will attack the man instead of what was said. Kind of like your post.

I wish he had simply left out "my view is". Make the rhetoric like the Repub in-your-face way of speaking. But that's no real quibble.

Now what do The Bidens, Obamas and others of that ilk have to say about this statement?

52. When are these damn so called democratic strategists and other
wimps going to realize that we are not going to get Repuke votes -- but if we re-establish ourselves once again as the People's Party we might just get more votes from the the poor and working class who usually don't even bother to vote. I don't blame them -- the party has not been representing them at all since probably Bobby Kennedy.Think single mother with 3 children -- she might not be as 'fashionable' as the suburban soccer mom, but she is the base we need to represent. If we would only reach out to our natural, historic base -- I've no doubt that we'd win in a landslide -- assuming a fair election that is.

Go DEAN Go -- tell them like it is!!!

Toned-down Dean finds friendly audience at PUSH (LAUGH ALERT)
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | June 13, 2005 | LYNN SWEET WASHINGTON BUREAU CHIEF

Posted on 06/13/2005 9:31:43 AM PDT by Chi-townChief

Freeper's selected quotes from Sun Times article

'Fox News is a propaganda outlet for the Republican Party and I don't comment on Fox News.' 'I do not want to hear any more about Ken Mehlman going to African-American churches,' Dean said... Republicans 'ought not to get even 2 percent of the African-American vote in 2008 if we don't have a Voting Rights Act. ... I want the Voting Rights Act reauthorized, and I want the Republicans to lead on it.'...'Mehlman, Dean's counterpart, has been methodically courting African-American voters.'

Freeper response...

Portrait of an insane demagogue. I glad Howie's doing his best to "reach out" to the Red States and their residents who dominate the ratings on FOX and the entire cable media. He's so phony, just like Hillary is; it's very easy to tell he takes Red State(R)s to be a bunch of mind-numbed robots and duped idiots. Good luck reaching out to Red States on the DUmmy, dead networks.

And who is he to decide who blacks have a right to vote for? He probably thinks they are just a bunch of idiots, too.

And there goes Mehlman, who doesn't insult the intelligence of either group. Glad to have him aboard and glad to have Dean as the enemy ship. As we can see, Mehlman is remaining lower-key and is not getting lazy during the DNC implosion. He's spreading ideas, and I hope he'll keep at what he's doing.

FOX News is how the R's receive their orders--not how they issue their own propaganda.

Big Money is calling the shots, and the GOP dances to its tune.

73. assholes
Seriously, knowing that Fox is a propaganda machine AND that the viewership of Fox is on a decline since lets face it, only neocon repukes watch Fox - why should Democrats even bother going on Fox news.

After I saw how O'Lies Alot (or was in INShANITY) distorted something that Joe Biden had said on the Sunday talk shows, its obvious that Fox News basically pulls crap out of its ass and calls it news (and yes, I know Biden can be sometimes irritating, but it was actually proven on Media Matters that what Biden said and how Fox represented showed 2 completely different ideas).

Dean needs to tell the democrats to stop going on Fox News. The only democrats who watch Fox News is the few courageous ones who watch to see what kind of lies Fox is spewing each day, the rest are diehard republicans who wouldn't vote democrat if they were paid $10million dollars to do so. This still doesn't solve MSNBC, CNN or the Networks but if those other channels see the boycott by democrats then maybe they'll toe the line and start moving back to the middle (which is all we ask).

Thank you Howard for making my day!

66. I agree with both the Dean and Axelrod quotes here.
Fox News is a better target than labeling millions of Republican voters in an insulting fashion. Axelrod is exactly right about Dean's earlier comments, but finally Dean made an attack on Fox that makes sense.

I agree with Dean, why bother with them.

Fox News has no credibility.

We are only wasting our time and spnning our wheels when responding to Fox and GOP rhetoric. We have learned that when we do respond, we don't get fair air time anyway, so why not wake up and not give them the time of day.

Our time is much better spent working for the good of the nation. If we have to throw out a few comments or concerns about the media or the GOP, so be it.

The GOP is 82% white Christian, and their leadership has an agenda that can only be described as Evil. And they have a megaphone to broadcast that agenda called Fox News.

Gov. Dean, the price one pays for telling the truth is always a high one. Thank goodness you are willing to pay it, and shame on those in the party hierarchy who are not.

Everytime they go on these GOP Propaganda networks they get sandbagged.

Dean should ramp up his msg. and frame the issues, never explain or back down. Any Dem that doesn't bak him up should quit the Dem Party and go elsewhere. It is way past time the Dem Party start being the Opposition not the appeasers. We are at War with Fascists and Christo-Fascists in Amerika!
