little observation about Support Our troops magnets
today I printed the how to join the US Army from the Army website and wrote on it

From a Vet
To A chickenhawk

Now believe it or not, went shopping intending to leave this on the first Bush Chenney in 04 stickered car or support our troops that did NOT sport a DoD sticker... believe it or not, not a ONE on the parking lot, heck I did not spot any on the way over or the way back...

One of those that made me go WOW, something may be going on

So I have my memo still to give to the first chickenhawk that gets out of the reservation

;-)

1. Just had a ratty old van covered in ribbon magnets
park next door at the neighbors. Even had a red white & blue thingy on the steering wheel. Was gonna go out & do the same thing when he got out. Was at least 70 years old or a 40 year old redneck, couldn't tell. Decided it was a waste of time.

6. It would, because he'd have been too old anyway
I just do it when they're obviously under 35 & would be eligible to enlist.

15. You're right, didn't think of that
I carry the enlistment forms with me at all times. I just confront the younger ones, not those in their 60s or 70. Usually focus on big ass SUVs too. The bigger they are, the more vitriolic I get. (For you Freeper lurkers, that means angry)

3. For the past two weeks
driving between central and south central Indiana I have noticed a significant decline in the number of these vehicles with these magnets.

One day they were multiplying like rabbits (three, four to a car)... then *poof*

Of course there is the theory that they all fall off in the carwash...

19. Dumb question alert..
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 08:24 PM by larissa
 Does that site really sell ribbons like that one, and the one with "our troops deserve a president who isn't so dumb".. etc..?

Did you guys create those, or are they somewhere on that www.supportourribbons.com site?

I want some!!! I can't find them on that site tho'.. :dunce:

Are you guys just super creative, or are they really available to buy?

Thanks! (( ))

22. Yep you can go there, do your own slogan, or use one of ours, and
get them to make it and send it. There are other sites that will do ribbons and/or bumper stickers.

Google something like 'make your own bumper stickers ribbons' or 'design your own...'

Have fun. Be creative. Let off some steam. Help make dumb ass jingo ribbons obsolete by mocking them. Join my war against jingos and the people who think using them equals being a good citizen. Help tell them that Democracy demands a bit more thought from us all.

OK, off the soapbox for now ;)

9. Magnets
After just returning home from a brief 15 month stint in Iraq.I have seen tons of support the troops magnets on various vehicles within my hometown.
Personally it makes me watch to puke when I see them.Because you slap a 4.99 magnet on a car or truck, that doesnt mean you support the troops.
That is just someone trying make some money for personal gain. And if you have a magnet its all good right. Nope I dont think so.
I understand not supporting the war, personally I didnt support it either but yet I signed a contract and took and oath to protect and defend.
Just remember this yes the war was based on a series of lies, yet the people that scream for war dont know a damn thing about it.

12. Welcome home soldier
by the way here at DU we have these wonderful drives every so often to adopt troops, so if you are going back, let us know

If you know anybody in who may need a package from home, again let us know

We also feed and pester them politicos about things such as VA care, combat pay, you know those minor things of military life

And as a wife of a Navy Vet (who was on the line too) welcome home sodier

20. thank you
for your service. I regret that it was abused (imo) for political gain for a few. Brief, 15 months, yikes. Glad that you are home safely.

I have noticed a slight decline in our community of these magnets.

The whole give money to a company to "show support" is icky. There are groups that are collecting goods/supplies and sending care packages - that would be more supportive - and better yet, would be to not gripe about taxes and send adequate funding for training and safety gear, and better yet - if they really support this - go enlist and give direct support.

Rant over.

Again - glad you are back, and a belated welcome to DU.

25. Welcome home!
Could you please enlighten me as to how to respond to this situation?

I was at a convention of Dem women and there were soldiers and marines there who were leaving for Iraq and/or Afghanistan. Some of the marines were rather openly hostile to us. One morning I was trying to get on an elevator and two soldiers approached the elevator with huge black plastic storage box-type things. Anyway, they said that would be living out of those storage box-things for the next year in either Afghanistan or Iraq. They asked what the badges were that so many women were wearing , (convention badges) and I told them. Something else was said and all that I could think of to say was simply, "I hope that you stay safe and that you make it home okay after living out of those things for a year." I'll be the first to admit that seemed pretty weak, but I couldn't think of anything else to say.

What does one say in a situation like that?

14. Guess you haven't been out here in Stepford, New York.
They're here in full force, slapped all over their Mercedes M-classes and RAnge Rovers, right next to the sticker that boasts about their middle schooler being on the honor roll. Haven't met a vet out here in seven years.

21. spent 3 1/2 hours driving around long isalnd today and they're gone.
Saw one pink ribbon for women's breast cancer, and only one Bush/Cheney sticker all day. I saw more puerto rican flags and stickers than troops ribbons.

I want a "Boycott Ignorance" sticker. I'm a long way from Long Island, though.
