CBS news leads with repub criticism of bush
It was a good lead story and touched on Gitmo, the Iraq War and a second UK memo. More repubs are distancing themselves from bush and are wanting a timetable for troop withdrawel.

They're worried about their jobs in 2006 from the sounds of it.

3. I honestly don't remember who they were
They named a few guys, but it came across to me as the criticisms are growing against the bush administration.

17. Interesting
They know the poll numbers I'm sure and keep up with it. The republicans haven't had any good outcome in any poll numbers since the last "election". As you said they have to worry about re-election so of course they're going to follow the poll numbers (like Bush critized Kerry of doing heh). This whole summer and next few months should be interesting to see how many more republicans get more crazy and how many more distance themselves.

2. BushCo has not been doing a very good job at falsifying...
...the number of new jobs created, so Bush has agreed to step up the estimates. From now until November 2006, no monthly jobs figures will report anything less than 300,000 job gains. In 2007, they'll adjust the reported figures downward.

5. Politics, as usual.
The Republicans are trying to save their asses. Not that anyone is surprised. This is just Politics 101. The people are pissed off so they have to show that they are pissed off, too.

8. Can't remember; was in shock that Repubs were speaking out.
Especially the guy who said there was no reason to remain in Iraq since the reasons for being there proved to be false. I think another talked about a new DSM surfacing.

9. DSM wasn't mentioned
A second memo about post-war strategy and the US's lack of preparation was briefly touched on.

14. YW!
It's nice to know that some of the most rabid defenders were included in this story -- especially Mr. Freedom Fries. Lindsay Graham seems to have been distancing himself from this administration since the Abu Ghraib was exposed.

20. Losing key republicans!
Wow. This is great! I wish these people would get in touch with Conyers and actually do something! Mel Martinez of Florida. Remember him? With the Schavio memo? Why is he coming out against Bush? (I love how they say Booosh) He was talking mostly about closing Guntanamo and how it gives the US a "bad image." (heh!) Republican senator Lindsay Graham!! He says they're not giving enough support for the troops in Iraq. He also said unless things get turned around public support is going to keep slipping away. Walter Jones, the man who did "freedom fries" ordeal (heh) is calling for a time table for US troops to withdraw from Iraq. He also said the reason's for invading Iraq proved to be untrue.
The reporter also said that according to a new report that was put out there were no plans mentioned of rebuilding Iraq from the US (duh!).

13. Worried about 2006 and 2008, sounds like.
When the party "leader" starts to look like a fuck-up to all but the most self-deluded, then they start to back away slowly and look around like "I don't know this guy!"

It's almost like bush is, excuse me, but having horribly stinky gas every day and the rest of his party is pointing and saying "IT WASN'T ME!"

But it WAS them, too. ALL of them.

16. We need to get the word out about Repub hypocrisy 14 enduring bases
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 07:20 PM by EVDebs
being built in Iraq...The media is keeping these plans secret on the M$M networks. I've only learned of the 'enduring bases' from reading the internet sites on DU and truthout.org etc.

Bob Herbert's "Heads in the sand" shows Sen McCain saying we'll be in Iraq for ten to 20 years...'that's not so bad'. Gotta love 'em !
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=F10A16F738550C708CDDA00894DC404482

The 14 enduring permanent bases mean someone's lying to the public, and it ain't Democrats:

"Permanent bases in Iraq are a "disastrously bad idea," says Jessica Mathews, president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington. It reinforces Iraqi suspicions that the US launched the war to get a hand on Iraqi oil, control the region, and wants to maintain a puppet government in Baghdad.

The total cost of the Iraq war has reached $125 billion to $140 billion, estimates Mr. Adams. Reconstruction boosts the total to as high as $175 billion. Permanent bases would keep the tab running for years to come."

18. Is this when I get to say "I told you so?"
Edited on Sun Jun-12-05 07:23 PM by Pacifist Patriot
That is a collective non-specific 'you' not you in particular. :)

If I had a dime for everyone who shook their head at me and said, "No, no, no, it'll never happen. The Republicans have too much party loyalty," I could start planning my retirement. If I said it once, I said it a thousand times. You don't need a Democratic majority in congress to impeach a Republican president. I can see the weasels backing away from him at a faster and faster clip each day.

Sen. Martinez has begun to publicly criticize President Bush's policies and he owes his political soul to His Fraudulency.

Whether it's impending impeachment or simply ass preservation for the 2006 midterms, the rats are abandoning the ship.

AFAIC, too little, too effin' late. I don't have to read the grocery list of lies and consequences of death and destruction to DU'ers, we all know them by heart.

Those Repub bastards, I hope they all suffer defeat as punishment for their fealty to Little Boots.

I've been wondering, now that some of this stuff has finally started breaking in the media, if everybody else will start piling on. I'm sure everybody knows what's been going on, but they've all been too afraid to stick their necks out, not wanting to get Rathered or whatever. But now that **'s approval is really starting to slip even within his own party, who could possibly resist kicking him on his way down? I'm waiting for ** to say "You won't have George Bush to kick around any more." Asshole................
