Make gay people straight? How about making straight people gay?
Think about it. If you really believe that the proper "treatment" (cough)can change a person's sexuality to straight, then it follows that a straight person could be made gay. If sexuality is really such a muteable characteristic that a little therapy, some parental discipline (cough) and some anti-depressents can change it one way, the same things can easily change it another way.

A ridiculous argument? Of course. But maybe not for someone who is so panicked by their own hazy sexuality that they're afraid one little push would knock them over the edge, so to speak. The kind of person who keeps their sexual bogeymen firmly locked in the closet, so to speak. ;) The kind of person who refuses to believe s/he could be happy as a gay perrson, and so finds it impossble to believe anyone else can be happy as one.

How many families will be destroyed, and how many lives wrecked, by the idea that our most innate characteristics can and must be changed?

1. Why bother gays? Aren't us straights screwed up enough?
Leave 'em alone.

3. Definitely not for someone who is confused about their sexuality!
You are so correct. There are probably a huge number of closeted bisexuals and individuals terrified of their own urges.

9. I often wonder
How many people would come out as bi if society didn't have such terrible hangups about it?

I'm not one of those people who thinks everyone's bi (that's chauvinist thinking IMO), but Kinsey said most people don't fall at the extreme ends of the scale, and I think that's true. Maybe that's why so many people (gay and straight alike) are so insistent upon denying the existence of bisexuality.

4. once at work, arguing with a fundie who insisted it is a choice...
i said, "i'll tell you what. let's try an experiment. i know you'll tell me the truth cause you're a christian. let's "decide" to be gay for a few minutes. the next guy that walks down the aisle, lets stare at his ass. now, since we've "decided" to be gay, we should experience some sexual attraction to him."

abut this time, a co-worker came lumbering down the aisle. I stared intently at his ass, saying "No, no, not feelin' it yet. How 'bout you?"

He got pissed and stomped off, never bringing the subject up again. I've always wondered why he never specified whether he "felt" anything.

13. Yep, Watch Out For Sponge Bob
Edited on Sat Jun-11-05 10:56 AM by iamjoy
Sponge Bob is gay and if you let your kids watch him, they will grow up to be gay.

added on edit:
These radical clerics also think providing equal protection under law for homosexuals encourages that deviant behavior.

7. Read once about a guy looking at doing some "time"...
He went to a shrink and asked to be "Turned Gay", since he figured if he was gonna be Dancing with Tiny, he may as well enjoy it. the shrink told him that was preposterous, you can't just take a straight guy and make him Gay.

"Oh, why not? You guys claim to be able to 'fix' Gay guys and turn them Straight..."

8. Um, phobes all think gay sex is better than heroin
and ten times as addictive, that if they ever engage in gay sex, the fireworks will be so intense that they'll never go back to the boring old wife.

Hell, maybe they're right about that, phobes being what they are.

Gay/Straight isn't a dichotomy, it's a continuum. I think a lot of these "Jesus will make you straight" folks really are bisexual and do struggle with staying straight. Poor, pinched bastards.

So they already are terrified of straight to gay conversion, realize it is possible, and fight against those sinful impulses every day.

Sad, aint it?

10. Problem is they believe gays "recruit" young people all the time.
I always find it funny that the rabid crazy christians accuse gays of recruiting when the only groups I have ever seen on this focus on "recruiting" queers to be straight. Typical right wing hypocrites.
