WooHoo!:woohoo:

Well at least they did just credited it to my May "Sky Miles Card" Statement, and didn't waste a stamp to send me a check.

3. Yep...
... when I got the class action notice, it seemed as if AMEX were supposed to refund the difference for the excessive fees charged for currency conversion. For me, in that time period, it would have been about $30. I got 41 cents, too.

10. Then I made out like a bandit!
One once got a check for $1.86 as my portion of a class action suit... can't even remember what it was about or who was involved. I can't even believe they actually cut and sent me a check in that amount. Unreal. But hey, I was finally able to buy that pack of gum I'd been saving up for!
:woohoo:

I dislike class actions. The only people that ever get anything out of them are they lawyers.

13. Wow - maybe you can get a spot on O'Reilly's cruise.
Oops, I forgot. No one's willing to cough up 41 cents to be stranded at sea with the jerk and it was called off.

14. Now I don't feel bad about not returning my claim to them.

Speaking as a lawyer, these class actions are too often gross exploitation by the attorneys bringing them. Class actions can do some good - but in more limited, well-defined classes of people who have truly suffered some significant personal injury.

And the legal fees should be limited to hourly fees for documented, reasonable hours, plus expenses such as mailing, document reproduction, expert witnesses, etc.

Ideally, each state would utilize its Attorney General's office to bring these actions, co-ordinating them with other states' AG offices when appropriate. The states would thereby pay the legal costs and the the awards from the suits would go directly to the individuals who had suffered injury/damage. The awards could include compensation for reasonable legal costs to the states AGs by the defendants.

16. What did AMEX do?
Wrongully inflate interest rates or finance charges?

Even if they lost the class action, they still made out like bandits.

17. Neither
They overcharged on foriegn conversion rates for those who spednt money outside the US.

Personally, the biggest class action settlemetn I've ever seen was for about $1500. But that was a much different situation and there were no legal fees other than an hourly rate (doctor I worked for recieved this for a class action settlement for them downgrading their billing, suit was brought by the AMA).
