Say something positive about a Democratic leader
I appreciate Russ Feingold for his consistency, honesty, and for keeping us informed by going on Air America twice in the last two weeks.

3. John Kerry has been working hard in the Senate to
expose Bu$h's nominees for what they are. From Gonzales to Rice to Bolton. It can't help him as a politician to go out on these limbs and I've never liked him so well as when I've watched him talking right into the C-Span camera and making his case.

has cleaned up the corruption in our city; put the budget back in the black; is *finally* fixing up the sewers and she's approachable; friendly and decidedly a Democrat.

When she was elected she said "Make me mayor and I'll make you proud". She has done that, beyond our expectations.

32. Wow. That's really good to hear. We don't hear enough about
Dems working locally. Thank you.

My mayor, Gavin Newsom, wasn't my choice. And I can't say I agree with him on most things -- he's proposing cuts to mental health and homeless services that I could never agree with. And from here, it looks like he took up gay marriage to get out from under being the mayor tasked with solving homelessness.

But, he did the right thing on Gay marriage, and no matter what his motives, I'm proud of him for doing that -- especially because the DLCers abandoned him for a time until they saw how it might play out.

Good job, Gavin. Do it again.

35. Right on Casper....
Franklin rocks...

Last fall mayor Franklin sat down next me on a flight from Cleveland to Atlanta (in coach). She had just worked her ass off campaigning for Kerry in some urban Ohio churches (that were predominantly African-American).

She was kind, open, and easy to converse with. She asked ME about my opinions about Kerry and about the election. She was open to my questions about local political issues (including a measly "Do Not Block Intersection" sign at Chantilly and Cheshire Bridge - right next to the 85 on ramp ).

As far as I'm concerned she's one of the best Democratic politicians around.

although we may think it doesn't matter- I've started trying to appreciate and support the ones that are really trying. Feingold and Kohl are my senators- both Dems, though very different. I've written to Kohl to criticize more than anything else. But recently I started to just send Feingold a thank you on his webpage whenever I hear him speaking out.

If I were in that position I would appreciate hearing positive things, so I would guess that he does too.

Republicans HATE me: single mom, highly educated, driving a '93 model car, humble in economic worth, fighting for equality and justice and my fellow Americans.

Not all Democrats take a stand for "Just Me" BUT EVERY REPUBLICAN hates and exploits "Just Me",....and I didn't do a fucking thing destructive towards them. I feel like I am "Iraq". I am an enemy in spite of threatening no harm,...to the contrary,...just struggling the best I can with the corporate wolves breathing down my back.

36. Dennis Kucinich is the embodiment of an evolved citizen who frankly --
Edited on Sun Jun-05-05 06:25 PM by Old Crusoe
-- eclipses many of his fellow Ohioans, too many of whom voted for Dubya in the 2008 election. There is an authenticity to him, measured in how dedicated his supporters are and how threatened the rethugs were when he spoke around the country.

Wes Clark would have had an easier road to hoe as a Republican but because he is possessed of a bedrock clarity and decency, chose the Democratic Party instead. He has a future in films if politics doesn't go his way, but there is a significant chance that he may be on the ticket, and that has to give the Rovians some pause.

Howard Dean is the personal dream personified: son of a wealthy family attends Yale, studies the history of socialist government, reflects deeply on questions of race and war, becomes a physician, marries a strong, independent woman, runs for high office. if he's controversial, it's because his own example raises the standard for public service.

Nancy Pelosi has for years inspired loyalty among her constituents in California and has earned their loyalty. A woman's place IS in the House. We have not heard the last of this woman yet, and I feel that what she has accomplished so far has gone under-valued.

Al Sharpton found ways to round the edges of questions and issues in the primary campaign and simply refused to take any shit from the craven Press. What he lacked in experience, he made up for in insight and mental agility. Smart guy, and damned funny.

John Edwards has the best taste in spouses on earth, and distinguishes himself from many politicians by insisting that poverty should hold primacy in public political discourse. His climb of Mt. Kilamanjaro with his late son Wade was a glimpse into his role as father. It wouldn't piss me off one bit if he were in charge of many things.

John Kerry is one of the most sincere men in Washington, and among the most qualified to lead the U.S. and among the best suited to represent us at the world table. He bested the incumbent in three consecutive debates, but the public was busy with Fear Factor or some other shit, and an earnest, valuable voice was not heard. A lost opportunity.

Harry Reid is fighting the good fight for us. I wish Daschle had more partisan fire, but it's impossible to work up a froth of hatred for Tom Daschle, owing to his inherent human decency. But Reid has been in a few scuffles and walked away vindicated. I like the guy a lot, and he's not afraid to fight, even when outnumbered.

I hope the people of Wisconsin know they have a world-changer for a U.S. Senator, and I hope they can be dragged from Packer coverage on local tv to volunteer to support him. Feingold would be a refreshing addition to American political life. After the late Paul Wellstone, he's arguably the most liberal senator we have.

Hillary Clinton may be too conservative for my personal tastes, but it offends me when Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Mehlman, etc. pick on her. She probably has bigger balls than most Republicans, certainly THOSE three Republicans, and I figure she can take care of herself, but the impulse of the guy-pack ganging up on the smart girl is schoolyard politics and it positively sucks to watch adults do it. Senator Clinton enjoys the support of constituents in NY & may surprise me and many others with her next job.

Bill Moyers is a certified Baptist minister and a hard-boned, warm-hearted, clear-headed liberal to boot. His command of language is the best since JFK and JFK's speechwriters, or arguably better. I don't care what his chronological age is; he's my first choice for our next president.

52. So many about whom I can heartily say good things
My Congressman, Elijah Cummings is a great guy and a stalwart for what's right.

The mayor of the city of which we're in the suburbs is Martin O'Malley, and I am so excited that he's going to be Maryland's next governor. Keep an eye on him, America, he has the potential .....

Our Senators are Barbara Mikulski and Paul Sarbanes. Both are strong nationally and so, so good for Maryland. With either Ben Cardin or Kwaesi Mfume, we'll have a strong fighter in the retiring Sarbanes' seat come 06.

I want to also give a special nod to Leader Pelosi, daughter of former Baltimore Mayor D'Alessandro. She's been great in the leader's slot.

Looking wider, but staying regional, a man I've long admired is Mario Cuomo. Far and away the most eloquent voice for our side, we need his strong, clear, articulate - dare I say poetic? - voice for many years to come. Hang in there Mario, we love ya,man.

On the national scene, I have to start with Howard Dean. Mr. Truth to Power, he never fails to say what I'm thinking. That scream should be a Democratic rallying cry. I want it embraced and often repeated. In their face!

All the 04 primary candidates were terrific. There's not one of them - not one - who would not have been a president who is head and shoulders above idiot son. I could have supported each of them.

Wesley Clark is who I was behind in 04. He continues to inspire me and I will be proud to again support him if he chooses to run in 08. Some think he could have been (or should have been) a Republican. To know the man is to know nothing could be more untrue. He cares about people and he cares about this country and what it once was and will be again.

John Kerry would have been one of our better presidents. There's no doubt of that at all. He continues to speak out for what's right and we all need to 'have his back' this coming week when he goes truth to power over the DSM.

Harry Reid has surprised me. I admit to not being terribly happy about his selection as Senate Leader. He has surpassed my modest hope and made me an admirer. I find myself now very much a supporter. I like his quietly pugnacious nature.

How can any mention of good Dems not include Barbara Boxer, John Conyers, Henry Waxman, Jesse Jackson, Dick Durban, and so many others who do so much for us in Congress and in the arena of public discourse.

I want to close with a special mention for Bill and Hillary Clinton. And for Al Gore. Say what you will, we all have flaws. I like each one of them for what they've done and what they are yet to do. (Special note to Hillary .... please stay in the Senate.)

The list can go on, but this is already far longer than I suspect the OP wanted us to go.

I'm proud to be on the same side as these fine people.

62. The Democrats in Congress are more unified than ever!
Since the dark day of 1-20-05, the dems have learned to speak in one voice.... and to show some spine.

Boxer - standing up for our votes, and for everything.
Conyers - ditto!!!!
Kerry - for keeping all of his campaign promises (except for 1:banghead:
the counting votes one)... BUT he is fighting hard. And my thoughts are with him tomorrow! And I would vote for him all over again.
Biden - for blowing his top at the Bolton nomination.
Dodd - Durbin - Obama

and the biggest surprise of them all HARRY REID!
Who would've ever known that such a little wimpy guy from a hick town in Nevada could have such a strong right hook?

:toast:

76. Patty Murray has done more for the veterans in this country
than all the damned Repug senators combined. Patty is the first woman, and the first Democrat, ever to be endorsed by the national Veterans of Foreign Wars. Patty is the first woman to serve on the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. I have watched her grow into a statesman of dignity, gravitas, and real commitment. Patty Murray rocks.
