Don't throw old batteries in the trash.
Check the link to find where you can take them. Quick answer: Radio Shack or Staples.

6. Send them to capital hill
They need more batteries there, especially dead ones. Republican
congresspersons need special night-power when they arise from their
coffins, and it is little known, that 1 hour of cheney's waking time
takes 14,000 dead batteries.

Even better, as batteries can be mistaken for bombs, so the congress
will waste a gazillion dollars it does not have checking out the dead
batteries to make sure they're ok for cheney to eat.

There's a real benefit in sending all sorts of toxic and dangerous
industrial items you find in your yard over to the republicans... they
LOVE industrial waste. ;-)
